RT BBL Season 8

Re: RT BBL Season 8
Just FYI. 2 matches failed to upload to BBDB properly. The files made it over to the website however. It looks like a non-trivial issue so it won't get solved immediately but I will look into it this week, which may push back development plans.
Re: RT BBL Season 8
The MarS Spiders vs The Punch Dummies.
The Elves elected to receive the ball after winning the toss. This was a considered decision to avoid the trolls for a bit and also to avoid the turn 16 goblin 1TTD. I received and ran down the right flank. I blitzed the chainsaw but that didn't do much. It was fairly simple work to wall off the ball and wait for a turn to score in turn 4.
Next the gobbos received but I was able to take it off them and stroll in for a second.
As the half neared it's end The goblins lined up once again and went for a throw team mate. It didn't work even with an extra turn from a riot.
In the second half the goblins were getting thin on the ground and it was simple enough to kick where they weren't a roll past them or take the ball away and run home.
It wasn't all plain sailing as I suffered 4 injuries including 2 MNGs and a Move break. The gobblins had torrid luck though, or so it seemed, so the 4-0 scoreline is generous to the Bowies.

Only a quick note as I ain't got time to write a full report.
One hit Wonderz versus bad for Thy Elf
We had a bit of a false start where the game froze after 2 turns and restarted, but we restarted and had a really good close game.
First half The elves got the ball, stalled a little and managed to score around turn 5. The Lizards failed to pick up the ball for two or three turns so no response was possible.
2nd half the elves tried to kill or thoroughly mark any skinks in their half, so the Lizards roll a cage into their half, and efficiently score.
2 turns left means the elves make a risky play, but the Elf gets tackled! All the lizards have to do is pick up the ball, do one GFI and a handoff (to a player with catch) to score. They manage the pickup, but fail at the GFI.
1-1 at the end.
GG Idan, was very close, and you could have easily won it at the end.
Dice seemed reasonably even except that Idan had poor luck with GFIs (3 out of 9 failed) whilst I had absurdly good luck with GFIs (17 successful, no failures).

Re: RT BBL Season 8
All in all my d6 was a bit worse than average, not that bad.
But it seems like you switched your d6 with d17... Someone call the organizers!
Great game NJ... I felt outplayed throughout the game. Not sure how I was so close to winning.

Was really fun and close. From the other side I never felt that much on top, I was just trying to make you have to work and roll some dice to score, and hope things fell my way.

An update. Investigations showed nothing obviously wrong with the files for these 2 matches, and that it had just been excessive slowness from the server.
The Orc - game has been uploaded and all is fine & dandy.
The Elf-Goblin game has been mostly uploaded. For some reason it hasn't worked out the elf team totals (passes, catches etc) so no match report is visible. However all the player stats have been updated (ie if you look at a goblin or elf page you will see the match there). I will look into this at some point "soon" (might be next week).
The player charts & league table have not been updated - I could've mucked around and got that done but barely seemed worth it when there's a game happening tomorrow, which should update those.
Moose - I assume we are on for tomorrow - let me know if that's not the case.

Ogres win rematch 2-1; play like elves
Kickoff and the weather changed from very sunny to normal weather. The Ogres received and failed 7 of their first 14 boneheads!! Thankfully the rest of the game was more average on that front. Anyhow, the undead couldn't quite get the ball loose - and when they did (with a wizard) it bounced unfavourably, the snotlings crowded around the ball to make it hard to pick up. Eventually the Ogre passer blitzed his way to the ball, picked it up and chucked it downfield for Shrek Goes Forth, who walked in for a TD in turn 7.
Undead had 2 turns to score in the pouring rain. Some silky ball skills saw a ghoul within reach, however Shrek Goes Fourth got some snotlings with him and 3D blocked the ghoul. Both Down was taken and Moose was unable to engineer a score from there.
Second half and the undead received. They tried to get the ball forwards quickly but the rain scuppered that plan. Shrek Goes Fourth picked the ball up in the pouring rain & 1 tackle zone. However a series of well-engineered blocks led to him being knocked over. The snotlings stood around guarding the ball for a bit, then a wight came in and picked the ball up in pouring rain and TWO tackle zones! He ran for the line and a last-gasp ogre blitz failed. 1-1.
Next kick off it stayed pouring rain and the clock was wound back a turn. My thrower picked up the ball and a screen of 4 undead appeared in front of him. Too slow to go round, too little support to go through, I had little option but to throw it to Shrek Goes Fourth, who collected it and ran towards the line (did I mention it was pouring rain?!). Brave snotlings marked opposition players where possible. I moved what support I could up to Shrek Goes Fourth - a guard ogre, and then another ogre (mv6 break tackle) tried to get there but failed a 2+ dodge. I chose not to reroll and he died!!! Thankfully this was changed to badly hurt.
The undead threw players at the ball (not literally) but it didn't quite work out... it's hard with a Guard ogre standing next to the ST5 ball carrier. SGF dodged clear and got within 4 squares of the line. He was swiftly marked by two ghouls, but he blitzed one out of the way, burned the team's last reroll and scored.
Moose had 2 turns left but didn't get close to scoring this time, instead some silly stuff happened with snot blocks and the like.
Luck: my boneheads were abysmal to start with but ended up merely bad (22.6% failure). Everything I tried with the ball worked despite the weather. Moose had real trouble injuring my snotlings, their armour held up superbly. I had better luck injuring his players. Overall I think I had the better dice.
Post Game: Shrek Goes Fourth levelled up (5TD's 1 pass 2 casualties this season), alas just a normal roll (Strong Arm?!). Donkey became my first level 5 player, again just a normal roll. Team value now over 2000k. No level-ups for Moose - a stark contrast to the first time we played, but at least he got 60k winnings and the injury situation could be worse.
GG Moose, I think we both agreed not as good as first time round but still fun.

Fixed! The fixing script had a problem in it which had at least two side-effects - no elf team stats, and all the new skills that debuted in that match were listed twice. I've fixed both of these, let me know if there are any other anomalies.
All this is definitely pushing "improve the uploading process" further up my to-do list.

Would I understand the answer if I asked what went wrong? Curious but ignorant of even the language to have the conversation in!
Due warning for tomorrow, my baby boy has been a disaster at sleeping all week so I may need to look after him instead of playing tomorrow evening. I'll try to keep you all informed. Apologies if I don't.

Sure... there was a lot of running & re-running of bits of code to try and get your match and the other match into the system. One of these re-runs meant that I had effectively (in the background) imported your match three times (my mistake). When the time came for the bit of code to run to load your team's record for that match in, because of the duplicates it would've put your results in 3 times. This is A Bad Thing which is disallowed by the design of the database. I don't know if someone else has named this but if not I am going to claim "No data is better than bad data" is the Gandalf Law.
The long-term solution to all this is an upload process that fails in a sensible fashion rather than a haphazard half-done fashion which is what happened originally. I'm 99% sure that the original failure was just server slowness rather than a mistake in my coding - however the best-quality coding should cope with that situations like that and that is what I will be striving for. At some point.

Re: RT BBL Season 8
Apologies, but a couple of friends just arranged a spontaneous meetup for tonight, so I won't make it either.
I'm pretty much available every evening.
Can we reschedule?

Gandalf - I may be a bit late tonight (10-15 mins), don't know yet. Apologies if so - I'm sure you're eager for a bit of splat-the-rat and goblin-hobblin'.
