Quite so. Tragically this time it was less interesting - choosing a "both down" result instead of a push. With an unskilled zombie. Against someone with block. "Ahem, nothing to see here folks."

(It actually did make some sense in terms of the game - I really didn't want to push the guy with block next to my ball carrier.)

I'm available tomorrow. Anyone else? Abom - are you on for a 4th consecutive unavailable Sunday? Raveen - would appreciate an update on the chances of your availability?

I am, if no-one else is?

I haven't had any internet problems since last we tried to play. But, equally, I haven't changed any settings on the computer. So if it was a new-game-on-Steam-doing-something-funny-conflict that caused the connection dropouts, it may happen again.

RL3 and I played again. He with a new necromantic team based on things found in offices, and I with my vastly experienced human team (3 games). In contrast to some recent matches between us, there was only 1 injury all game! But I get ahead of myself.

I received from the first kick off. Most of the teams bashed each other around in the middle of the pitch to little overall effect, though I did lose my Guard/Block player to a KO. Two of my players were in the back field repeatedly trying to pick the all up and pass it to each other for some SPP's, with limited effect. As RL3 showed no interest in rushing those players they carrier on doing it until turn 6, and also there was no clear, safe way to score, especially a man down. Eventually with time running out I thought I should at least tried to score, so with a fair run of the dice I threw it to my catcher who dodges clear to score. Nothing much happened in the 1 turn remaining, so it was 1-0 half time to Deep Pass Niners. Ah also, at one of the kickoffs, a skeleton got a rock thrown at him which Badly Hurt him :/

The second half started with a high kick, which a werewolf caught. RL3 tried the whole cage malarky again. It seemed good to me, but without a clear strength or block or guard advantage on either team, by turn 12 it was a bit of a quagmire. At which point my Ogre hit a flesh Golem, KO'ing him but injuring himself in the process :D (miss next game). Running out of options, the werewolf handed off to the other werewolf who ran for the line (those doggies are fast). I managed to get a 1D block on him but it was not to be. RL3 decided to score rather than stall - I did have player lurking - so it was 1-1 with 2 turns left for me to equalise.

I got 4 players downfield, who were all marked. This time however the dice were not on my side and the pass failed. 1-1 full time. A fair result IMO.

A rather friendly game all round, little in the way of injuries, and also neither of us are experienced with these sides... and neither are they particularly exciting teams to watch, especially early on in their development. However it was a game that starts the development of this new necromantic team off nicely. Not lots of SPP's, but no injuries and the maximum 70k of winnings. I rolled 6+4 on a lineman, so probably +MV... +MV & block will make him the same as a Blitzer, albeit 10k more and without strength access.

I love BB because rocks get thrown at skeletons and take them out of the game :D

Necromantic seem like they need a bunch of games to get going, as mentioned.

Aye, couldn't make it cos of that D&D Dark Sun I mentioned I was getting into; it's settled now: we play 2x a month but conflicts with the usual BB time. So I'll be free the 4th and the 18th for BB, but not the 11th or 25th.

Did meet a local Blood Bowl player at the game, though! She's a fellow Skaven fan and highly recommends the new GW models.

Necro need block on the doggies and the golems and ideally block and sure hands on at least one ghoul.

Give necro 1 skill per positional and they become amazing.

Good write-up Gandalf.

After 1.5 games, Necromantic seem like a fun team to play with. They seem to basically be Undead Mark II - Golems (stand firm & MV 4, Block as a normal skill) instead of mummies (ST 5, MB but MV 3) is perhaps much of a muchness; werewolves (MV 8!, claw, frenzy, still AV 8) instead of skeletons (MV 6?, Thick skull) a big improvement, solving the Undead's mobility issues. I'm guessing that the claw/frenzy combo means its easier to improve the team as well. Any thoughts?

A brief history lesson:

When Warhammer split up Undead into Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts back in whatever edition that was (it was after 4th is all I can say), they decided to carry that over into BB (for no good reason). So Undead was removed and Necro and Khemri were added. As you've spotted Necro bears a resemblance to Undead with the Golems replacing Mummies and the Doggies replacing two of the Ghouls. Khemri got the mummies (now Tomb Guardians) and Skeletons.

As you may have noticed in the BB community, any change is received as a disaster and probably a worse crime than ultraviolent murder with intent (see the changes in the new edition to Gutter Runners and Piling On). So GW recanted and kept the old undead roster alongside the two new rosters.

This is also where the Pro-elves (now Elf Union) come from - they're the 2nd Ed elf team that got split into High and Wood Elves.

Thanks for the history lesson Raveen :) Good to have a perspective of an old-timer (and I mean that in the nicest way possible).

I always thought having an "Elf" team when there were already Wood/High/Dark elves around seemed a bit odd, I never thought about the undead side of things, but hey they're all viable teams, the more the merrier I say.

I'm not sure which I'd rather out of Undead & Necromantics. Having 2 ST5 players with no nega-traits is pretty awesome, but then Flesh Golems are similar to Nurgle Warriors and I know from experience that they can help dominate a pitch and are very solid indeed. Plus they get G access, unlike Mummies. Ultimately though, I'd probably go for Necromantics, the werewolves are fun pieces that you can do a lot with (depending on how crazy you're feeling).

That buff to Gutter Runners though....!!!

I agree that the new rule on Gutter Runners is dumb (if the GR Badly Hurts someone you roll a D6 and on a 4+ the BH becomes MNG). It's unlikely to come up and nasty when it does. It's not, however, the definitive end of the world.

Yes - that history lesson is very informative, thank you.

The usual Sunday-lunchtime question: who is keen to play this evening?
