Thanks Gandalf. Sorry La, I'm afraid I haven't checked the forum since much earlier in the week. Gandalf was correct - this week RL has been rather unpredictable, and it appears that the internet connection issues during our previous attempts at the match were only precursors to this week's much worse connection issues... sigh. T'interwebs has been dropping out erratically here all week. Not sure why. Sometimes rebooting routers seems to help, other times it looks like the problem may be in the signal coming into the house.

Hopefully, the internet will be behaving itself on Sunday evening for the match with the Carrion. Hopefully. But many apologies in advance if it goes squirly mid-game. Pinewood, are you willing to risk frustration and give it a go?

I'm always willing to risk frustration. I'm a married man after all.

Alternatively, I could play Daigoro this week and you in a fortnight's time RL? Assuming Daigoro can make it too.

If Daigoro's available that might be a good idea. Hopefully the problem will be sorted out long before then.

Percy's ladz are available, he's decided the rebrand the 'players' as 'fodder' and will be issuing mushroom based prizes to those who kill/maim them, etc.

The 'shrooms themselves are considering going on strike .

Be warned that Percy will most likely be horribly hungover. He's headlining Gloucester Beer Festival on Saturday and is being paid in beer.

Hopefully there's none of that dwarvern stuff there...

One thing I definitely have is lots of free time. We can play pretty much whenever suits you.

Ouch. The Brewers Brawlers came out second best versus the Lizards. The D6 failing them miserably (And I know how much poor D6 can screw with the passing game). Every poor dice roll by the Dwarfs was followed pretty much by a successful play by the Lizards.

One extraordinary moment in the second half came when the Lizards scored a single turn touchdown, whilst defending.
I kicked off, rolled a blitz as the kickoff result and ran a couple of players into the dwarf half.
Spinx got the ball as it landed off field, failed a dodge with his first move, So I blitzed the ball carrier with a saurus and ran through to score with a Skink.

Just a picture of spinx's luck that game. He also missed the chance to score as I tackled the ball carrier with a skink on a single dice block and failed all 4 attempts to catch when he passed. Unlucky

Recently retired Coach Percy's first match calling the plays from the sidelines can only be considered a success. Well, not a total failure anyway.

The Goblins won the toss and opted to receive. I punted the ball up and waited for the onslaught. The gobbos started pushing down my left but had to switch play to the left. a majestic scuttle down the sideline saw the Plan score the opening touchdown. The Khemri received but didn't have enough time to equalize before the half time oranges. We did manage to intercept a bomb though so that's fun. It also takes my catches for the season to 2.

In the second half Goblins got KOd like nobody's business and I was able to forge a path up the right flank to score. The Goblins tried a throw team mate to get a winner but didn't get the distance needed and their ball carrier ended up stranded deep in Khemri territory. Needless to say he got a bony boot up the bum and dropped the ball. The Carrions scooped it up first time (after failing a load of pickup rolls earlier) and proceeded up to the half way line. The trolls blocked all the caging routes and the clock was ticking down. I lined up a desperate play to pass the ball out, run and hand off and blitz for the win but fumbled the pass.

1-1

GG Daigoro, lots of fun and the Khemri are finishing in typical shambolic style :)

Here's the match report, possibly a first for RTBBL as it was begun by id3nt and finished by myself. Teamwork FTW.
-------------------------

Gandalf won the toss and chose to receive. He got a riot on the kick-off table and my none-mercinary Wight got KO'd by the crowd. I was unsure how to set up and decided to set up deep to defend against a throw team mate attempt. From the looks of the log the kick was out of bounds and given to the agili-ogre (as ever).

Gandalf started off my giving my zombies a good beating, but didn't manage to injure any (yet). I opened up with a werewolf blitz to an Ogre he'd left by itself which injured it off the pitch and out of the game. Then I smashed one of his snotlings into a grimey red pulp and sent the Flesh Golems to tangle up his ogres in the middle. As a result the ball bounced loose, was picked up by Bufkin who promptly failed a dodge and dropped it. A lot of punching, dodging, an injured Zombie and some failed pick-ups later, Bibgy Wolf picked the ball up and then Bufkin repeated his trick by failing a dodge, at least he didn't have the ball that time. However due to lack of mobility of the Ogre team and some good defensive screening the ogres couldn't stop Bigby scampering off up the right flank to score in turn 6, despite the best efforts of the snotlings who (briefly) stood in the way.

I kicked off again, from deep in my half. Shrek (The Original) picked it up and successfully passed it to a snotling (proably with half an eye on qualifying for the cup) who moved up to the ogres in the centre of the pitch, planning for a TTM. A fireball promptly landed on his head but clearly this snotling was made of stern stuff, though the ogre standing next to him fell over. Turn came and Gandalf meant to try a TTM, but got caught up bashing and made a pig's ear of it. As it was Gandalf was still able to throw the team-mate, but the snotling didn't land on his feet and there was no re-roll left due to having to use it to make an agility 2 dodge roll, so the half ended 1-0 to Bigby & friends.

The second half started with the 11 members of the ogre team kicking off to the 9 Necromantics, who started off well with a Quick Snap. Some hitting (but no injuries) happened in the middle of the pitch whilst the necromantics sought for a way through to score. They looked down the right wing, and then the left wing. Then I unleashed Faq The Pouch (the snotling with block) onto the ball carrier, but failed to dislodge the ball. The next turn the necros proceeded to hit him once, twice, and finally the third time they managed to knock him over (passed his armour roll though).

Donkey, who had been covering the backfield, saw an opportunity and blitzed the ball carrier, knocking it loose. Faq then stood up, picked up the loose ball and handed it off to Magic Mirror who had been lurking in the backfield, who promptly ran towards the touchdown zone with no opposition player in sight. After stalling for a turn or two he walked over in turn 14.

So two turns left for the necros to get a winner (the ogres clearly playing for a draw after stalling) - could they do it? The ref gave them a helping hand by winding the clock back a turn. They sought to gather up on the right flank and roll down there. However some unfortunate dice ended the turn prematurely. A bit of hitting later and now there was only one turn left. The ogres decided to concentrate on the only player who could score by pushing him out of bounds - but the 2D snot-block failed even with a re-roll! This left a remote chance of a necro score on the last turn but it was not to be. Final score 1-1.

=============================

I felt I'd been quite lucky and the post-game dice revealed that "very lucky" was a better description, Fables scoring minus 10 on the D6 and the ogres getting 6.73! I had the better of the block dice too.
The Necros has no subs (I don't think?) and struggled a bit with the lack of numbers in the second half, and had to play the whole game a man down after that early riot - though he did even things up soon after by getting an ogre off the pitch.

Onwards and upwards for both teams as the fight for second place continues.

It's Week 9, the last actual week of Season 5. Not the actual last week though, that's still to come.

This week in the RTBBL:

Tentacles, Interpretive Dance and Claws as Astrogranite Apocalypse clash with Fables!. The Necromantic team are hoping for a top 3 finish so will be looking to score hard and often. The Apocalypse just want to hit stuff.

Scales, Bandages and Low Agility as Saur'd of Justice investigate The Pinewood Carrions. The Carrions are searching for points to get back up the table but of course the Lizards are determined to hang on to their winning record for the season.

Biting, Throwing and Self Destruction as Team Shrek and The Cheesosophers find out who can hurt their own team the most. Bomber Dribblesnot is on standby for this match to ensure that an appropriate level of carnage can be achieved.

Weapons, Elegant Armour and Bomb Tennis as Percy's Persistent Plan take on The Sons of the Silver Sword. Rumours that the goblins have been taking flying lessons have been denied by a PPP spokes-entity, "it was just Percy's Wife finding two Goblin Cheerleaders in Percy's bed" it explained.
