Hi all - sorry I'm not around on Sunday. I can attempt to rearrange but I can imagine it being quite awkward as both myself and Spinx have habits of never being available at convenient times!

I'm still not 100% whether I'll be joining the next season but I'll let you know for sure when the Cup finishes.

Not a problem Andy/Temmop. I hope you do decide to stick with us, I think you really started to get to grips with the game at the end of the season.

Would it be acceptable for anyone who needs or wants to start a new team next season, and gets knocked out of the cup, to give said new team a run out in any exhibition matches played during the cup?

On a related note, could a league season five thread be started to see what teams people are thinking of playing? I need to think about this a bit.

Yeah! Where would we be without our international man of mystery?

Notjarvis - I might be 10-15 minutes late tonight sorry.

Idan - I'm apologising for Daigaro, who has been delayed by an unexpectedly long funeral and won't be able to make it tonight. Sorry.

2-1 to the Mighty Undercheesers.

Image

First half Eballa smashed down the sides; the Underworld didn't stop them hard enough, and some unsightly passing type stuff led to a turn 2 touchdown for the Nurgle.

Then the Underworld received, with Sweltering Heat taking out 3 or 4 players from both sides. Finding the right rather full of stinking Nurgle Warriors, the Undercheesers' ball carrier ran down the left, and equalised. Nurgle received, but somehow dropped the ball just where Underworld could have picked it up and scored in Turn 8, but a misclick led to the Skaven blitzer blitzing over the ball instead of round it.

In the second half the Underworld received again with a very deep kick, which the Nurgle started charging down alarmingly. But Jimi Hendrix got away and fled. He was screened off and protected from the general brawl that developed around the LOS (I believe a rotter killed himself failing a dodge at this point) until he scored.

Thanks for the game Wyld and commiserations to Eballa.

Hahah. my luck's consistent.

Last 3 games chance (on the single D6 according to BBM)

-10.20
-10.24
-11.22

No chance (sigh).

I figured my only chance was to take out a few elves by hook or by crook, and Hope gandalfs luck failed.)

my block dice failed (not significantly but defender down was the least rolled dice when I needed it more)
My Attempts to get through his armour failed more than they "should've", and gandalf played well.

Well played gandalf. good luck with the rest of the cup.

A shock win over an enemy that tormented us in the league!

The Carrions opted to receive in the first half and I think this was a good move. A deep kick allowed me to bash away at the Necros and cage up. Id3 never managed to get his Flesh Golems into place to be a real nuisance. I killed a zombie and KO'd a Wight and lost a Blitz-Ra, KO'd by a Werewolf blitz. Despite getting that St 4 Blodge Ghoul down and fouling at least twice I was unable to do more than stun the git. Sorry everyone.

There was a hairy moment when Fables! were able to hit the ball carrier scattering the ball. It ended after a turn of bouncing around in the hands of a Skeleton who finally walked it home on turn 8.

All KO'd players returned and we set up for the second half. The kick off was deep but Fables! were making inroads down my right flank. Then the half time whistle blew and we realised we'd actually ben playing Id3's turn 8.

Half Time - 1-0 to the Carrions

The second half kicked off finally and Fables! gathered the ball deep in their half. I pushed a Blitz-Ra forward enough to threaten the ball, hoping to force Id3 to move more quickly than he wanted. Fables! consolidated at midpitch with the ball carrier behind a deep line of players. My forward Blitz-Ra went for a 2D against block against the St 4 blodging monstrosity and I was lucky enough to roll Defender Down and Defender Stumbles with tackle. The ball scattered free behind the Fables! line. Around this time I blocked a Wight down next to the sideline with a Tomb Guardian and followed up to force the Wight to stay down or get surfed. Id3 placed a Golem behind my Guardian and I placed another Guardian next to the Golem. So the line was:

Wight (down) - Guardian1 - Golem - Guardian2

in order to move Guardian 2 I needed to block the Golem down with Guardian1. Did it happen? Yes, but not before turn 16 at the earliest. The really annoying thing was that Guardian 2 would knock it down every turn after Guardian 1 failed. Gah.

Anyway, back to the action. The ball was loose and a scrum formed in the mid-pitch. Last time we played Id3 got the better of me in these situations but I've picked up Guard on a couple of Guardians since then and I makes a difference. Id3 did pick the ball up and moved it into the scrum but I was able to blitz in with a Guardian and release it again, in the middle of a group of players for both teams. Fables! pushed a Guardian onto the ball scattering it to a Blitz-Ra who held it against all odds. From there I just needed to hold on and push forward if possible. In the end I was able to get free and scored a second Touchdown to end the match.

It was a fun game and only felt safe in the last couple of turns. Id3 tried to use his speed against me but I was a bit better prepared for his team this time and didn't get quite so out of shape which allowed him to miss that 2D blitz on the ball carrier and have it mean something. The dice were in my favour but at no point did it feel that either team had an unfair advantage because of it. I probably lucked out over a couple of failed pick-ups by the Ghouls slowing things down more than anything.

Apologies Idan for not being able to make it this evening, had to attend a pre funeral thing. Catholics eh. I'm a bit unsure of my availability in the week as I start a big project drilling holes in a mountain, but I SHOULD be able to get online for a match, I'll let you know as soon as I do.

Well done to the winners, commiserations to the losers.

Safe.

Notj and I had a fairly spectacular game, it finished 5-2 to me. This was despite 2 riots meaning we lost 2 turns... so there was a TD every 2 turns!

<placeholder for match report image>

Kick-off led to a rather broken field, with players all over the place. With a bit of blocking the Norse picked a path through the bodies and almost scored - a failed catch was all that denied him. Elves got the ball of him and scored.

I scored again not long after.

Notjarvis then set his team up to try and injure people and a result I mostly stopped trying to defend and kept most of my players in a huddle for safety. This meant the rest of the match consisted of touchdowns aplenty for both sides, and thankfully I only suffered one injury (wardancer got a niggling injury, rerolled into a miss next match). I managed to injure one of his S4 guys, which helped. It was all a bit of a blur to be honest so sorry for the lack of details.

Analysis:
Notjarvis said at the end that it was really tough playing against all my skills (mostly wrestle, block, dodge, tackle) which I can well understand. The only team to beat the wood elves by more than 1 TD all season was the Khemri, whose ST5 players can't really be negated by skills. Still, anything can happen in BB if you have a bit of luck, but Notjarvis has clearly been forgetting his sacrifices to Nuffle recently.

Dice:
As Notj said he was again screwed by the dice, especially the D6. If his early TD had scored then we would've had a more competitive/exciting game imo. To be fair I shouldn't have given him the loaded D6 to roll all the time.
My D6 would've been disastrous on a non-elf team as I rolled a bucketload of twos. Fortunately I was an elf team, so I actually ended up with a positive chance score on my D6.

The failed pass was 4+ with a reroll so i thought it was worth the try. To add insult you got it back to the other end of the field and scored next turn.

As I said I went out to try and thin the numbers on your team a bit - why I picked the troll with Mighty blow, and hit with him, and why I tried to foul when I had the chance.

Sadly both of these attempts in the first few turns led to turnovers and left me wide Open to the second score.

And once I was 2-0 down couldn't see myself getting back into it so the rest of the game was a bit silly and hardly worth the comment.

Norse really have a tough time once the other team has block.
Versus Strength based teams with High TV I have a small chance of elfballing past them.
Versus elfball teams I'm not going to score more than them and a cage would be easy to break/useless with 8 st3 players on the team, I thought it would be virtually impossible to slow the pace of the game and protect the ball.
- so I saw my only option as reducing the numbers of elves, and hoping for a bit of block dice / 2D6 love, neither of which happened.

I said before the game I would see success as losing by 3 or less and injuring a couple of players. I managed one of those aims ;D

Thanks for the write up Rav. It was a fun game, although to be honest I felt like I didn't know what I was doing for most of it!

It probably could have been a more interesting finish if I'd seen that Blitz-Ra coming. And I think I probably should have commited wholly to stopping you score in the first half, rather than trying surf your players or pressure your ball carrier. And set up for a blitz ;) But well played. I felt completely ground out by the end of the game, and I guess that's the main objective of a Khemri team...

I'm just glad my Werewolf isn't Dead.
