??? I dod look at rocket league. But shied away as my game playing time is ridiculously unpredictable and i would rarely play with people i like.

Most of my gaming past couple years is single player between 11pm and 1-2am on odd day or two a week

You can pick up Elite Dangerous (without landing on planets) for a tenner. Good value if you'll get the play out of it.

One of the things I like about rocket league is the shortness of the game. Let me explain. You play a longer game, like Allegiance, or League of Legends, and people yell nonsense at you for nothing more than being human, being new, making mistakes. Rocket League only takes 5 minutes and you're pretty busy in that time. I encounter toxic attitudes in maybe 1 in 20 games, and I deal with it by explaining to them their actions, why they are bad, muting them and then joining the other team :) The other good thing with it being short is, so you're having a terrible game / playing people much better than yourselves, so what, it won't last for long & you can start afresh in <5 minutes.

There are always people online to play with, you don't need to play with friends, 95%+ of my games have been with randoms. You can even play 1v1 games. 2v2 is where it's at though IMO.

I love how Steam sent me an email on the last day of the sale informing me of this.

I'm thinking it might be <£10 come Christmas, so maybe I'll get it then. There's still only 9 races there, and one of them aren't a real one (Brettonians), so far that reason alone I would prefer BB1 for now.

Bretts are no less real than Khorne, and arguably Underworld (+ chaos pact and Slann).

BB2 is mine enough but by no means essential.

It's not the "inventing new races" that bothers me, it's that they're in there before established races. Khorne got added very late in BB1 I think? UW/CP/Slaan are at least in LRB.

Were Bretts in the original BB board game? If not, was "Humans" originally Brettonians by another name? I remember Brettonians as being a part of Warhammer outside of BB, but can't say I remember there being another "Human" race. Any thoughts?

When I played Warhammer there were two human races that I recall, Brettonians & The Empire. However since Brettonians aren't in LRB6 (the latest community-approved rulebook) I think they are an invention of Cyanide.

OK, last official rules are the Competition Rules Pack or CRP. This has no fluff and includes 21 rosters, excluding Underworld, pact and Slann.

LRB 6 or the Icepelt rulebook is what the CRP was based on and includes the 24 tabletop races. This is not official though, although it was approved by the rules committee.

So Underworld, Pact and Slann exist in a grey area. They are accepted the NAF but not by GW.

Khorne were invented by Cyanide with input from some of the old rules committee and they appeared in BB: Chaos Edition. They have never appeared in any version of the rulebook. It is not clear how official Cyanide's take on the rules is.

Bretts are based on a fan roster that's been about for a while and appeared in BB2. There may have been official rules for Bretts in previous editions but only by way of White Dwarf articles rather than full inclusion in a rulebook.

The current GW take appears to be that the CRP is still the official rules as that's what they're using for their tournament this weekend. They have announced that the core rules won't change with the new box set but it's not known if rosters are core rules. As they plan to release rosters in expansions I would expect not.

So what's official and not is a strangely tricky question. My take is stop worrying about it so long as the given roster is fun and not unbalanced. And none of the current rosters are unbalanced except arguably wood elves.
