You need a double when you level them up.
Roll 2-9 = Get a skill
Roll 10 = Get a skill, or +1 armour, or +1 movement
Roll 11 = Get a skill, or +1 agility
Roll 12 = Get a skill, or +1 strength
Every character has a skill category they can get normally. If you roll a double there is an extended set of skills they can get instead.
Halflings get Agility normally, but can get a General, Strength or Passing skill with a double.
Treemen get Strength normally, but can get a General, Agility or Passing skill with a double.

Gandy has it. One of the real disadvantages of stunty teams is the lack of general skill access. Things to note though - first doubles skills add more to TV than normal skills, and so do stat increases for that matter, second some skill sets aren't available to all players even on doubles, mutations are chaos and skaven only, so that claw treeman is never going to happen.
Re: Ask Coach Rav
No unhygienic mutations, check. Thanks for the confirmations, I had those pretty much figured out by now.

Re: Ask Coach Rav
One of my guys has stats that say 0 passes, but 36 yards gained by passing. How can this be?
Re: Ask Coach Rav
my starting skaven team with 11 players has 1 player injured and unable to play the next match. does this mean that I can't play with them indefinitely, because I have only 10 to field for the start of the match?

Re: Ask Coach Rav
If you start a match unable to field a full starting eleven you'll be given mercenary players to make up the numbers. These guys come with the Loner skill (50/50 check to use a team re-roll) and of course, any SPP they earn they'll take with them when they leave at the end of the match.
Unless you choose to hire the mercenary and add them to your roster after the match. Then they'll lose the Loner skill.

Just let your journeyman sit on the line of scrimmage and get punched in the face repeatedly by whatever big, ugly brute the opposition brings along. Any XP earned won't be an issue I promise you

Re: Ask Coach Rav
That brings to mind a hypothetical. If an attacker fumbles their block and goes down injured, does the defender earn the 2 SPP for inflicting a casualty?

Re: Ask Coach Rav
I believe that the rules state that you gain SPPs when throwing a block not when defending.
Re: Ask Coach Rav
I'm pretty sure Rav is right. Spinx's elves did a much better job of injuring themselves than I did of injuring them, and I got no SPP for it.
The 5-assist foul got me some SPP though :p
