Dark Elves win 2-0 versus the dastardly Goblins.

http://gandalfgames.net/bbdb/matchdetai ... tch_id=112

Goblins take bribes and Ripper, giving them an impressive 3 Troll wall that demands respect
Elves Kick off, but it all goes wrong for the Goblins with Trolls turning over when blocking from the very start.

Elves run into the Goblin half, Over the first few turns corner the ball and Batter a bunch of goblins Injuring 4, and stall for a turn or two (which nearly comes undone when the goblins get the ball loose).
Meanwhile the goblins manage to injure the witch elf (I've never had a witch elf last past the 3rd turn of a game yet)
The Elves score fairly late in the half, a riot wastes another turn, and the goblins don't really have time to try another score.

On the stroke of half time my internet suddenly goes down, so we have to restart,
We contrive to make score same and sit all the extra players at the back of the field (my blitzer with tackle had also been injured, and the goblins weapons were sent off - so we both had 9)

The Elves receive in second half, break through the Goblin lines and stall, hitting goblins, Even injuring Ripper! (unfortunately he regenerated).
Eventually they score late, with 3 of the Goblin team on the field.

Bad luck Abom, I had a streak of good Injury dice in the first half which convincingly pushed the numbers my way, and it was difficult for the Goblins to make headway after that. The Trolls were also extraordinarily unreliable (lots of Stupid, and bad block turnovers). My dice were all pretty good (apart from whenever I tried to pass)

Jarvis's Dark Elves won over my gobbos. I think the score was 2-0? Maybe even more, like 3-0.

((Pudge the Well-Spoken rant on ))Twas quite the unwinnable game for the AV7 gobbos, but fun nonetheless. Jarvis casualty'd a gobbo per turn for 4 or 5 turns, stealing the ball and scoring quick. Then, the refs let the clock run, making the gobbos' 2nd drive worse than useless and instead just straight up detrimental as their secret weapons are marched off the pitch thanks to the shortness of the time.

Some early double 1s on many of the turns for the low-reroll gobbos was the nail in the bloody coffin. The refs even gave the elves a blitz on the final drive as the cherry on top, since they had not been alerted yet that the elves were already winning.
((/rant))

It was still fun to run around with my trolls knocking people around. Good game, jarvis, and I hope our next game is just as bloody as this one. :D

The league is called "RT BBL Season 8".

This means next week it's the Goblins versus the Ogres. They truly have had a baptism of fire here.

Yep, sorry about that Abom!

I really did schedule the league randomly. Would you prefer that I try and pick a schedule that gives the less experienced teams a fighting chance next time? I suppose we could have done two divisions or something, seeing as we have ten teams.

Code: Select all

// Randomise the indexes (a good old Fisher–Yates Shuffle):
var currentIndex = indexes.length, temporaryIndex, randomIndex;

while (0 !== currentIndex) {
  randomIndex = Math.floor(Math.random() * currentIndex);
  currentIndex -= 1;

  temporaryIndex = indexes[currentIndex];
  indexes[currentIndex] = indexes[randomIndex];
  indexes[randomIndex] = temporaryIndex;
}

Not for me on both questions.

For the league - I prefer getting to play everyone, so I've always been less keen on cups/Multi division formats.
And schedules will always throw up these things, so there's no point obsessing about it. I wasn't criticising the schedule, just finding it interesting.

I was thinking more about keeping the current format, but just scheduling it so that the first half of the league was the lower half of the team values playing each other and the higher half playing each other, and then only making underdogs play against the odds in the latter half.

Yeah; keep it as it is.

Underdogs might have a rough start; but it actually probably favours them in the long run as they get to play their more 'winable' games after levelling up a bit... if they survive that long...

ID probably just wants an excuse to write some more fancy code...

I used to make sure that rookie teams got to play another rookie/easy team for their first match. It's less of an issue these days of course as we play friendlies to a greater or lesser extent.

On the flip side, Ogres will really struggle against experienced teams, who have picked up block/wrestle/tackle (like la's Skaven team that I just played), so I am glad I get to play some lower-valued ones (abom, then Rav) earlier in the season :)

I repeat my belief that Ogres vs Goblins make for the most hilarious matches in Blood Bowl so am looking forwards to Sunday! There should be much sillyness. If abom wants some good news, then I have an ogre sitting the game out due to injury.

--------

I like the randomness too. Re: 2 leagues, this topic keeps coming up, I think consensus was keep it as it is, but that we could revisit it if we get to over 10 teams. eg if we had 20 teams and they all played each other then a season would take half a year, I wouldn't like that.

My feeling as Commish was that 12 was the breaking point to start splitting into divisions (as much because <6 team divisions wouldn't take long to play out). It'd be a nice problem to have :)

Yes; imagine 20 teams!!!! PHWOOOAR! The end of season cup would get a lot more prestige then eh? Might even have to be a 'during season' cup.

Also, more than 10 people in one mumble channel wanting to give updates on their matches would probably be a bit too much too.

I'm cool with the schedule as it is. As long as I have a week to mull over my inducements and fail at basic arithmetic, I'm fine. :D

As for the format my thoughts are still this:

Season/Cup: I wish at least one of these formats enabled teams to play each other more than once, such as 2 games per matchup per season or best of 3 in the cup. I realize though most people are against this as a season could take up to 6 months and this # would only go up if we get more and more people! Perhaps if we're still playing by 2020 and everyone's tried out most teams we can finally make the switch. :P
Cup: I agree with Daigoro that we should add in arbitrary point bonuses or penalties for a season/cup's theme, esp. for the Cup. Like in the violence league maybe every X casualties is worth a touchdown. However I only think this because I dislike single elimination; if we were to switch to say, a best of 3 format I'd probably argue to continue with the current lack of silliness... or maybe only stick to such a theme the occasional cup or so.
