I got back home now.

Anyone wants to do a game before Sunday?

La, can we either play our game on Saturday or an hour or two earlier on Sunday? I'll need to leave the house about 9:30pm I think.
[/quote]

Hello - earlier on Sunday would be tricky due to parenting but Saturday after 7.30 would be fine?

Then conceivably I could play my MD3 on Sunday?

Sorry for the double post, but SuchDodge just played The Mighty UnderCheesers in Matchday Two! or Three!

In a thrilling first half, the apothecary saved SuchDodge's star blitzer from lasting injury, before the Underworld bombardier blew the Underworld cage wide open, leaving space for the Amazon to dodge in and spill the ball. Then some stuff happened and the Underworld looked like they might score, but no, the attempt failed on Turn 8.

In an equally thrilling second half, some sturdy defence saw the Underworld hold the Amazon at bay until a break down the Amazon left ended up with a failed handover and a scattered ball, which the Underworld foolishly tried to pick up instead of mark. The thrower of course failed, scattering the ball. Seeing their final turn throw up this unlikely chance to win, the Amazon cleared the ball, picked it up, threw it, and failed the catch.

Final score 0-0 - the UnderCheeser's first point (and first level up!) and a crushing blow to SuchDodge's title hopes, which appear to be in tatters!

BB Match rating: 6/20.

So match day three started a but early this week...

Image

The match turned out to be really anti-climactic in the end, with each team having a very good opportunity to score a touch down in the last few turns of their receiving half but ultimately failing. There was some very good defensive play from both sides, and some excellent positioning from la resulting in a few good off-field pushes.

The game opened with a failed kick by the Amazon and some serious aggression to try and get at that bastard bombardier. Unfortunately, an Amazon player suffered some broken ribs (which the apothecary turned into a Badly Hurt) and another player got pushed off the pitch by some crafty block-dice choices and positioning by la. This forced the SuchDodge to take a more defensive approach to the game. The Mighty UnderCheesers took the opportunity to grind down one side of the pitch, but a failed throw by the bombardier left a couple of skaven knocked down, and the Underworld ball handler defenseless. A swift attack knock the ball lose, but there was nothing either team could do to score in what remained in the first half.

The second half saw some tenacious attacking by the Amazons. The Underworld were kept on their toes by Catchers lurking within reach of the end-zone, whilst being forced to wait for the Amazon ball handler to stop loitering deep in her own half. All the excitement happened in the last two turns of the game. A well thought out attack was ruined by an unnecessary hand off which failed. The ball fell free, and the Underworld managed to pick it up. Not for long though, as a plus strength blitzer showed up and loosed the ball once more. An Amazon catcher who had spent most of the second half on her back ran into the end-zone in the hopes of receiving a catch. In an excellent display of dodging, the last remaining Amazon thrower managed to pick up the ball and threw a perfect ball to the waiting catcher... who dropped it.

In the end, the match rating says it all: 6 / 20.

Sounds like a draw was a fair result and that there was the odd moment of excitement. A lousy injury count though!

Too tired to do a lengthier post, but MD2 for Khemri vs Underworld finished 1-0 to the rotting undead fiends. It was a deserved win.

The highlight and, indeed, the end of the first Underworld offensive drive was David Bowie the Troll eating Derek the Goblin. Luckily the Underworld made enough winnings to immediately hire Derek II! The lowlight and, indeed, the end of my second offensive drive was putting the ball carrier at the front of the screen rather than inside it.

An interesting tactical match though, and one I'm disappointed not to get a point from, especially given the run of form the Underworld were on with their 1 game unbeaten streak.

As La and I played our week 9 game this week I've swapped weeks 9 and 4 in the schedule. That means the next games are:

The Cangurus vs Da Zoggin' Gitz

The Orkly Ducklingz vs The Weird Outcasts

Lager and Lime vs Team Shrek

And as SuchDodge will be free I suggest that Ident and I make up our week 2 game, assuming that everyone can make it.

The Outcasts (my Chaos) beat Da Zoggin' Gitz (Wyld's Goblins) 2-1 Last night.

    First Half
    • Chaos Elect to Receive, immediately identify the Trolls as the biggest threat to life and limb, and the Minotaur Knocks one of them Down, shuffle around a bit, and pick up the ball, using a reroll.
    • The goblins retaliate by injuring the Minotaur - he's out of the rest of the game (and the next).
      • I thought about using the Apothecary, but I tend to save him for death and/or serious injury, and didn't want to use it on the first turn
      • So the minotaur was out for the rest of the Game, and I was down to 10
    • Chaos Cage and run up the right hand of the field. Despite goblins with Secret weapons causing Havoc (away from the ball), the ball makes serene progress up the flank
    • Chaos injure one goblin and KO a couple of others on the way, but score on turn 5
    Score 1-0 to Chaos
    • Chaos kick off and it lands in the Goblin Back field, on Chaos's Left
    • The Goblins do a bit of blocking, to no real effect, The Ball and Chain Goblin wanders about some more. Then The goblins fail to pick up the ball.
    • Chaos break through the Goblin Lines trying to Chase down the ball.
    • Goblins do more blocking and pick up the ball and try to get some cover round it. It's no help as Chaos break the ball free.
    • Squabbling happens around the ball. On the last turn of the half Chaos try to break the ball free, for a 1 GFI touchdown, but all the blocks made seem to push goblins into positions in Chaos's way
    • The Goblins last turn sees a goblin make
      • 2 dodges into  tackle zones,
      • pick up the ball with a tackle zone on it,
      • make two further  consecutive Dodges out of tackle zones.
      • Make a pass to the middle of the park, all without using a reroll
    • Unfortunately the next attempted dodge by a goblin fails, and we don't (yet) get a change to see flying Goblins.
    Half Time (1-0 to Chaos)
    • Both teams have 10 players as a few goblins are down, or sent off with secret weapons and Chaos are Minotaur-less
    • Chaos Kicks off - half way down Goblins half on the Chaos Right
    • Chaos storm through the goblin lines again. Getting Tackle Zones around the ball as much as possible.
    • Goblins try and move about on their turn, and blitz, but the blitzer fails a dodge roll (with a reroll) by rolling double 1
    • Some undignified scrabbling happens around the ball, but the Chaos Beastmen eventually emerge with the ball and score on turn 12
    2-0 to Chaos
    • Goblins have 8 players on pitch - Chaos still have 10
    • Chaos then kick off, trying to go deep. The ball goes 1 square too deep and off the field
    • Wyld hands it to a goblin next to a Troll, who promptly Hurls the player across the field, who lands safely and runs in for the Fabled 1 turn touchdown!!!
Unbelievably the 8 man Goblin team pulled one back! 2-1 to Chaos
    • The final turns see Chaos drive up the right (again) and push through inside the goblin half
    • Foolishly Chaos try to hit goblins rather than running for the Line (for a 1 GFI score), which leads to trolls breaking the ball free with no time to do anything
    Final Score 2-1 to Chaos

A fun and open game, with Goblins that you couldn't count out. Those secret weapons are a Bugger to deal with and the two Trolls too.

    Dice Rolls
About even - nothing really of note. The goblins seemed to roll more 1s than would expect, but had really good luck in other parts with that D6.

    Best Play
    Clearly Wyld's 1 turn touchdown.

    After Game
The Client connection Crashed after game completion, so neither team received SPP or Cash out of it which was a shame.
(On a positive note however, it means my Minotaur will still be available and no injuries counted. I will still be down 1 Chaos Warrior for the next match)

Re: RT Cup Season 3 - Matchday 4 - 17th August

Postby Raveen » Tue Aug 12, 2014 12:20 pm

Hello and welcome to Smash of the Day, sponsored by Skellogg’s Khemri Flakes. Skellogg’s “we don’t grind up dead bodies for anybody else. I’m Bob Bifford and with me is Jim Johnson.

Thanks, Bob, and here are the results from the third round matches in the RT Cup.

Image

Wow, Jim, those were some amazing games. Let’s take a closer look. First off we have the Cangurus who were held to a 2-2 draw by Lager & Lime. Seems like the Elf passing game wasn’t enough to outpace the Halfling flying and crashing to the ground game. The Elves hit hard though and a good few of the little fellows ended up hurt, or at least pretended to be hurt in order to raid the dugout’s well stocked bar.

They certainly looked incapacitated after the bar had run dry, Bob. Still that’s a blow to the Cangurus who were one of the hot picks to be challenging for the title. Next up there was The Weird Oukasts who played Da Zoggin’ Gitz. The Outkasts took a 2-0 victory away from this game, showing their dominance on the pitch. Off the pitch however a temporal warpstorm blew up and transported both teams back to a day before the game started. Local wizard, Gruntzarg the Fabulous was quoted as saying “Zis was nozzing to do wiz me! Just because I control the powers of the elements and ze warp and can easily conjure storms does not mean I was responsible.  And ze fact zat my magic staff is still glowing wiz residual magical energy is completely coincidental. And anyway what’s it to you?â€.

Just one of those things I guess, Jim. Next up is the game between The Mighty Undercheesers and SuchDodge. Despite being played at night the Underworld team had no advantage and neither team was able to get over the touchdown line. Both teams were pretty lacklustre and they both fumbled potential touchdowns at the last moment.

The game between Team Shrek and The Orkly Ducklingz was played early as both teams were bored of waiting for the schedule. The orcs were able to solidly win the match 2-0 but at the cost of several injuries. The Team Shrek Ogres were brutal for the whole match and if there had been more than three on the pitch may have been able to swing the balance of the game.

In a bonus this week, The Pinewood Carrions played The Mighty Undercheesers. The Khemri carried the day 1-0 in a first half display of single minded grinding that we haven’t witnessed for a long time. The Undercheesers came back hard in the second half but overconfidence led to the ball carrier being exposed to a Khemri blitz followed by a protracted brawl in the Carrions’ backfield.

Thanks for that, Bob. Let’s take a look at the table.

Image

The Orkly Ducklingz are sitting in joint 1st place with the Weird Outkasts. Rounding out the top three are the Amazon ladies of SuchDodge, just ahead of the Cangurus. Down at the bottom end of the table, Team Shrek have played 3, lost 3. Still, at least they’ve been hurting people and that’s what the fans love.

Finally let’s take a look at the upcoming games this week:

The Cangurus will be playing Da Zoggin' Gitz. I don’t know about you, Jim, but for me the Cangurus have the edge here. If they can keep their distance and score fast and often they’ll be sitting pretty. On the other hand, if the Goblins can smuggle on enough weapons they might be able to maim enough Elves to change the balance of play.

The Orkly Ducklingz are matched against The Weird Outcasts in a top of the table play off. Whichever team takes the win here will be in a very good place to take the title. And with the Ducklingz carrying injuries from their last match you have to favour the Outkasts for this one.

Lager & Lime verses Team Shrek is what you would expect to be the last place battle except for Lager & Lime outplaying all expectations . Will the Ogres be able to bring them back to normal or will the Halfling’s run of form continue?

SuchDodge will be playing The Pinewood Carrions in a very late kickoff from Week 2. The Amazons have all the advantages here and the Khemri will be hard pressed to keep hold of them or to bring their strength to bear.

Nice recap. :)

Looking forwards to next week. 5 ogres & 3 re-rolls was what I wanted at the start of the season, and I'm finally there. No idea how to approach this next game though. Do the ogres take the treemen on, or do I feed snotlings to the treemen? Whatever the case, I hope for lots of thrown players. :)

You need two assists to take on a tree, but once they're down they have got to be prime foul targets. Of course so is a downed Ogre.

You're doing really well Spinx, much better than I'd expected Halflings to perform, even in the race to the bottom that is Season 3 :)

Getting a draw against the Cangurus was a fantastic result, getting a win against my Khemri was good for you, but not entirely surprising (when my TGs are loaded up with MB and Block and I have some tackle it'll hopefully be different) and losing to The Weird Outkasts is entirely expected. Actually you've played two of the top tier teams already, so you're doing even better than expected. You might find that late season when people start getting tackle it'll make life a lot harder on you (and all the stunty teams).

Of course, I hear that Team Shrek have been out looking for big axes for some tree felling they've got lined up, watch out for that 7 on 1 Snotling attack!
