Well done! By my calculations you are undefeated so far. Correct?

What was it like playing against a Slann team? Were they interestingly different?

Percy has yet to be bested. And if I'd remembered to activate a Hand-off I might have got a 1TTD against the Elves and won that game too. Never mind.

Next game is against Norse who will kick the crap out of my Goblins and Rats. And Percy's new claw won't help much either.

The Slann... well it's hard to judge from the Spartans because they had 6 players available for the game and only one of them was a positional (the catcher who I beat to a pulp and is MNG for their next match).

Normally I'd expect the catchers to be extremely hard to pin down. They're Ag4 and have VLL so leap on a 2+. With four of them on the pitch I'd never consider running the ball with a Goblin because bounce bounce bounce, 2+ leap, 1D block on the ball even in a cage (I don't have Guard). When there was only one of them it was easier to predict his path and force him to dodge or leap early if he wanted to assault the cage.

Hemlock, the skink with stab, was more of a threat but he got KOd early in the second half and that was the end of him.

Ah well, the wheels had to come off at some point...

I was playing Glowworm's Norse who had already beaten the Slann into conceding. All that block means that they're a bogey team for Underworld at the best of times. I got inducements and opted to go with Fezglitch, a skaven Ball and Chain.

Glow opted to receive so I decided to keep Fezglitch in reserve for a drive when I had control (bad move!). I lined up and in the first turn Percy got Badly Hurt. I apothecaried him (I forgot about regen in all honesty) but I did at least manage to KO the Snow Troll in retaliation. Glow caged up and trudged up the pitch. And all the bullshit I normally get away with stopped working. My two heads goblin died (he was extremely in harms way) and the other goblins couldn't make a 3+ with a reroll without leaving the pitch. I had my skaven but the numbers were against me and I couldn't threaten the cage. Glow stalled and gave me one turn of Ball and Chain goodness. I went for the one turner and failed the 3+ with a reroll pickup.

The second half was more of the same. Percy left the pitch in turn 2, Badly Hurt again and another Goblin died. I was very down on players and Glowworm easily took the ball off me and scored for a 2-0 win.

In the last turn or so I got to set up one last time. I figured my MB blitzer could at least thump a Norse lineman. I set up and the kick-off was perfect defence. Still, I had a 1D with Block so why not go for it. Both Down, without thinking I rerolled it. Skull. Dead. Story of the game really.

As bad as my dice were it was a fun game. Glowworm has a reputation for being a fun opponent and it's well deserved. He played solidly and I did my best with what I had but Percy is no longer undefeated or gunning for the top spot. I'd still like a top 3 finish though, I think that'd be a solid achievement with Underworld.

The video is on YouTube in Percy's Channel so watch it!

Commiserations Rav, sounds like a classic Bad Underworld Game. Against an opponent like Norse they really do need to be working their Underworld magic, and ideally not getting injury rolls. But that's half the fun of playing the team I guess.

I played the final PodBowl game last night and went into the game needing a win to top the table.

I was playing Nightwing and his Necro. It's a solid and developed team compared to the shambles left by Glowworm so I got lots of inducements. I opted to stick with my policy so far of taking stars where possible and picked up Glart Smashrip Jr., a Skaven Blitzer with Claw, Juggernaut and St 4. He only lacks Mighty Blow to be spectacular (and probably broken). I also got a Babe with the change.

Nightwing won the toss and opted to receive. He drove down my right flank safe in the knowledge that he could surf any of my players that got too close to the sidelines. I pressured the cage with my fast moving rats and forced him to break to the mid pitch within scoring range. I was able to blitz the ball carrier but I had to GFI to put a TZ on the ball so inevitably fell over. Nightwing ran round the defenders with a Doggy to clear the ball and a Ghoul scampered up, picked up and scored.

With 4 turns left in the half I figured it was worth trying to score back. I didn't have any rerolls left though and so didn't want to risk a throw team mate for no reason. The kick off was perfect defense so my drive down the mid-right was scuppered from the off. I tried to push down the left but I didn't have the muscle to force a way through. On turn 8 I had the chance to run the ball to a Goblin and throw it but failed the first dice roll of the move.

Second Half I received and Percy or Glart double skulled right off the bat (or that was the last drive, I' not totally sure). The ball was safe enough but it wasn't a great start. This half saw lots of KOs with both teams whittling the other away as the turns progressed. I caged up on the left but again the Necro stodged everything up. In the end the ball changed hands a few time in the Necro backfield and I had a chance to score but couldn't get the dice I needed. The game finished 1-0.

I don't feel I had bad dice but with a little more luck it could have been a very different game. Nightwing played better than me (I haven't played in ages and practise makes me a better player) and deserved the win. Like many low scoring games though I found it really fun. As great as running 6 TDs in is, a 0-0 1-0 or 1-1 game is always really a really tight and tactical affair and this was no different.

I finished 3rd in the European PodBowl league with 4 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses with Underworld (a team I took partly as an excuse in case everyone else was much better than me) so I'm pretty happy. I think I just need to practise more. None of the games failed to be fun and I'm slightly relieved not to have to try and arrange games against the North American podcasters because with my schedule that was going to be a nightmare.

I'm glad it turned out to be a fun league Rav.

Nice work on finishing third!
