Everglade Wanderers

Joint winners of season 2 are back for season 4. And boy are they over-promoted, with a level 4, 4 level 3's, 6 level 2's and 2 level 1's. Only once (twice?) rolled a 10+ or double though, so no craziness like S3's amazons with their st4 blodgers. Lots of wrestle, though. Screw you, blockers! Season 3 had a lack of passing, hopefully the Everglade Wanderers will do something about that in season 4.

Played WyldKarde's Nurgle.

One beautiful pass. Better than 0 but the Wood Elves expect more! It would've been 2 if Morg hadn't intercepted a pass - nearly the end of a beautiful touchdown-saving turn.

At least they won (2-1), and levelled up the thrower (interceptions are now a lot harder to make). Looking forwards to some sweet passing action next week against the Pro Elves.

Beat the Elves of Cangerus 4-1. Lots of good passing, some crazy plays and ball-dives. Good open elf-ball.

I've decided to let Tari Amandil (Lineman, 21 x SP, Kick, Fend) go, after 13 matches, 3 MVP's, a touchdown and 3 passes. I just haven't got much mileage out of fend. Eleri (6 x SP) will be getting the Kick skill, and I will be purchasing a Thrower to keep at 13 players. Throwers are only 20k more than Linemen, have the same stats, come with Pass and access to pass skills, so well worth it I think, especially with the pass-oriented philosophy of my team. Thankfully my one passer has yet to sustain an injury, but if he ever does I will now not be as stuck as I would otherwise be.

3-0 against the Necromantics. Only 3 passes. Fortunate to win by that much but the team's commitment to open, exciting play was kept, and that's the important thing.

The Wanderers find themselves in an unusual situation of having the full 13 players - for two games in a row! :o Truly they are a blessed team when it comes to injury rolls.

My recently acquired thrower levelled up. Ethelun and Feirwen are closing in on level 3. No-one is closing in on level 4... 6 members of my team seem intent on reaching 31XP at the same time. Will Ernie make it to level 5 first? And if so, what do you give a guy who has catch dodge sprint wrestle dauntless and tackle?

SWRGTDROIHGJSRGHOSG has set himself a challenge - comparing his yards thrown versus other team's yards ran, how many can he finish ahead of? He's currently in 6th and is hoping for a top 5!

A humiliating 2-1 defeat to the underworld, as the elven ball skills deserted them and their strategy fell apart.

Honour was restored with a 4-0 win against the undead, and the team got lots of experience points. However this came at a cost, as a wardancer & lineman have to sit out the next game.

Much discussion among the team regarding what skill to give their new level 4 wardancer. According to the team's philosophy of risky plays & diversifying skills, it looks like frenzy will be the winner. Great for crowd-surfing, especially as he has side-step, to avoid being crows-surfed himself. His +MV will mean no-one will be safe!

SWRGTDROIHGJSRGHOSG stellar numbers have slowed. Can he pick up his yardage in the next game?

The Wanderers have been doing extra ball-handling in training recently. Their recent performances in this area have not been good enough, their manager even showed them a graph to illustrate this. Their manager likes graphs.

Returning from touring the Season 4 cup around the elven kingdoms, countless appearances on talk shows and a lot of ball-handling training (see previous post!) the Everglade Wanderers are back for Season 7. Let's shine the spotlight on a few of their players.

Their founder and spiritual leader, Bee Tiered is the most visible presence, as he's big and doesn't flash past opponents in a blur. Not even a broken neck can stop him! More hitting and standing around will be the order of the day.

The elven missile Ernie recently learnt some extra agility. No cage is safe from this guy. With the situations he ends up in it's surprising he has no injury yet - how will this season pan out for him?

Alan aka The Elf Who Lived taught a few classes in the off-season on "How To Stay Alive". Generally his tactics rely on being badly hurt/KO'ed a lot, but whatever gets the job done. Will he finally meet his long-postponed end this season?

Altonmarwill be a horrible person to be up against on the line of scrimmage this year. Recently becoming the second wood elf to get Guard, he definitely puts the team's good ahead of his own.

Keyboard mash is looking forwards to throwing more unlikely passes. With 470 yards to his name already, how much progress can he make towards his target of 1000?

And finally, Warprancer, with movement 9, frenzy sidestep and leap, the pitch is his playground. He can get anywhere, do anything (twice) and occasionally fall over :D

I've long since decided to stop trying to tip-toe around the infantile sense of humour prevalent here...

How can you NOT find that funny, whilst also factual about elves in general?

Bee-tiered's time of wandering had come to an end. He had guided his elves past a number of obstacles and teams, with the help of his inspirational leadership, presence, and the greatest apothacary the sport of Blood Bowl had ever known. Together, the Everglades had won everything the game had to offer. He was set to quit after the league victory, but the elves begged him to stay on one more game as they were rather scared of getting hurt by the Orcs, so he did one more before handing over to a sapling by the name of Swampy Joe (who promptly saw one of his charges killed by the Skaven. Oh the shame!).

As he lumbered off back to retire with is more stationary friends, he mused on the records they had set together.
  • Highest average touchdowns scored per game - an average of 2.73
  • 24 wins, more than any other team
  • Most yards ran (2264, 34 more than Fables who have played 3 more games)
  • Most yards passed (1286, almost treble the next team)
  • Most passes made in absolute terms (112) and average per game (3.39)
  • Somehow, not the most knocked over team, but 409 was still a lot, and very few serious injuries in there.

And for all that it was a team game, the star players in the team had achieved great feats too.
--- Ernie the only player never to miss a match for the Wanderers. Despite being injured 8 times.
--- Alan the most injured player in BBDB history having suffered 11. Bee-tiered had tried his best to persuade him to retire, but Alan said he just loved playing the game. Given how little he *actually* played the game, Bee-tiered suspected it was more to do with keeping his profile high so that the merchandise kept selling.
--- SWRGTDROIHGJSRGHOSG the best thrower by a long, long way, with 724 yards, and 40 passes in total, over twice the total of the next player.
--- Top 3 most knocked down players - Eleri, Alan (both 42) and Ecthelion the several-times-back-from-the-dead Wardancer (41)
--- 4 of the top 5 spots in the most touchdowns chart, the other spot (3rd) taken by the now deceased Bigby Wolf, he is welcome to that spot!
--- Bee-tiered himself had a top 10 spot in most casualties caused (12) and 4th spot for most knockdowns dished out (54).
--- Ernie is the most experienced played in BBDB history with 107 SPP's including 26 TD's.[/list}

Yes, Bee-tiered thought to himself, that was quite an adventure. More than enough for a gnarly old oak with a sore neck like himself. It was time to hand over to the next generation.

Technically the MarS Spiders have a higher TDs per game record at the moment... Technically :)

Congrats to the old plank though, he was a solid player. Very solid.

There's a reason the BBDB team averages page has a rule of a minimum of 10 matches :)

The in-game reason for him retiring was that he got to level 4 with only normal skills. Guard is fantastic, grab is meh, what do you get him next? Break Tackle? He's always happy just to hit the person in front of him. So off he went to pastures new (or old) in favour of trying to get a double on a Treeman.

The reason for him staying for the first round of the cup though, is exactly as described above. An extra ST6 guard player was a great help against the orcs. Less so against the Skaven so it was a good time all round for a change in leadership.

I went break tackle on the halfwits but they need to move far more to escort the ball up the pitch.
