The upload issues thread

People keep getting timeout error messages when uploading the game.

This is not ultimately my fault. It is the web hosts' fault... as evidence, sometimes people upload games and it does it in around 1 second. I could increase the timeout to a number of minutes rather than the current 30 seconds, but I'm not convinced that's going to help, and anyway it makes for a rubbish user experience.

It is on my to-do list to improve the upload process - by revamping it so that if there are issues, it will either tidy it up behind the scenes, or let you re-upload it.

In the meantime here I will post updates on games that haven't uploaded properly. Sometimes you need to upload them again, but most of the time the files themselves have made it to the webserver and I just need to process them into the database.

Fables - Ogres = Files uploaded; Gandalf to process them
Elf Derby = Files uploaded; Gandalf to process them
Underworld - Undead = No uploaded yet attempted; the coaches were planning to try tomorrow

Underworld - Undead. Moose uploaded. No issues.

Fables - Ogres. In trying to fix it I accidentally deleted the files. Doh. I reuploaded them and it worked.

Elf - Dark elf. Managed to force this one through! http://gandalfgames.net/bbdb/matchdetai ... tch_id=142 HOWEVER the player records don't seem to have worked. There is only 1 player showing. This will have implications for player stats. So it will need fixing. Do the coaches have any idea what might've caused this? A strange array of star players or something?

Raveen Had Edril sidewinder or whatever his name is, and a loner Lineman due to injury I think.

The 2D6 record looks odd on that page too, looks the wrong way round entirely to me - I got through armour lots and caused injuries - Rav didn't

I just had my whole team fit for the first time in a while, I sacked a witch elf after the last game, (or the game before) but No player changes apart from that

I had 3 players sitting out and Eldril. Oh and a journeyman who died during the game.

The 2D6's are logged against the player it was rolled against. So an elf has to do an armour roll means it appears under the elf. Some people say that's illogical but I say it makes sense... D6's after all are rolled by players who are doing that action.

I intend to make a change to the match report page to make this fact clear. I feel that ultimately it doesn't matter which way round it is, so long as it is a) consistent and b) documented.

Elf Dark Elf is fixed now. As with most bugs it was an incredibly stupid one so I'm not giving any more details!

Future fixes should be a lot quicker now though

I uploaded a Nurgle vs Dwarf friendly last night, but it seems BBDB got so bored with the game itself that the upload didn't work. Which is somewhat unfair as I found it a thrilling tactical match up.

I tried again, but then it said that it was already there, thank you very much.


edit: I don't know if it was just prejudice against another The/Cheese based name?

Will add it to the list of things to do before Sunday. As mentioned above, I'm hopeful my new "fix it" script should sort this out efficiently, here's a chance to give it a whirl.

If it's OK with you I'm not going to put your name on that team just yet. This is because I'm close to writing some code that will let users attach coaches to team names from inside the client, so it will be a good test bed for that.

If I had the time I would code in an error message saying "the limit on cheese-based teams in BBDB has been reached. Please choose another team name."

It's only a cheese-based team name. I think we should all unite to fight dangerous anti-cheese prejudice.

It was a duller match than Percy's attempts at poetry. Even the client tried to disconnect us at one point because it was fed up of hosting the dullest match it's ever seen.
