X Wing Alliance on GOG

Postby Raveen » Sun Jan 25, 2015 4:43 pm

For anyone who's never played it (or those who have actually), X Wing Alliance (and the rest of the series) has made it onto GOG.

I've always thought it to be the best of the series and even though Adept hates the flight model it captures Star Wars excellently in feel.

If you do buy it, please try the XWA Upgrade Project which makes the ships look as good as possible and adds some other stuff too. Their patch is currently being tested with the GOG release but hopefully will be available soon. Oh and credit where it's due, I created some fixes for missions rendered impossible by the new ship models being different (more accurate) sizes so there's a teeny bit of my work in there.

Another thing to try if you can find it is a campaign by Abolisher which modded the game to make the ships far more like the movies - faster and weaker, a couple of hits will kill even a shielded fighter. That was a great mod and is well worth a go.

Now Adept will complain about the flight model :)

I think that the flight model is part of what gives it the Star Wars feel.

Star wars has never been hard sci-fi. Why should the flight model be any different?

Loved the game. There was also an editor to create missions and campaigns (AlliED I believe). I wonder if that still works with the game.

I'm going to check this out when Im through with my current games. I'm curious to see what you build Raveen.

AFAIK AlliEd should still work. GOG have made some changes to the exe but the mission files are still the same.
