Don't think this is Thargoids. One of the things I found was someone else who ran into the same thing. It's a ~50ly sphere around the star, and this star is one that's on watch for possible nova/supernova in the "Near Future" - That would be a fun event to watch.

I wonder if they have the infrastructure in place to propagate a nova... The light arriving years later even to neighboring systems and all.

Considering the efforts they put into the galaxy, I would be somewhat surprised if they didn't
