This game has peaked my interest. I'm probably going to get this later on.

Check this out! A starter ship Sidewinder with just one small pulse laser is jumped by another player in an Eagle fighter. With some quick thinking the player manages to turn the tables on the attacker. There are a few more things the sidewinder pilot could have done (like put max power to shields), but other than that this is masterful work. The Eagle must be wrecked.

I had a right good try with the Eagle mk 2. Loaded it up with three fixed multicannons and went to a warzone. Some hell was raised, and the ship is an untamed beast. Can't take a hit worth damn, but man was it fun. Definitely the ship for an aggressive pilot who doesn't need much safety margin beyond acceleration and agility.

You might well have said earlier in the thread but I can't be bothered looking, what're the recommended specs for E:D?

Quad core processor of 2+ GHz  (but so far dual-cores seem to be enough)
8 gigs of RAM (but people are playing fine with just 4)
Graphics card with 1 Gig or RAM or more. I have a GeForce 560Ti, and it seems to work just fine so far.

Modern, but not top of the line is the order of the day.

Incidentally I'm DLing the premium beta client as I type this up  :)

Hmm, I wonder how those cheapo AMD processors should be counted?..

It's mostly a question of clock speed and number of cores (or at least threads).

What are you sporting, or are you wondering what to buy?

Well my 'current' PC is an Opteron 265 from about a decade ago :) that has some quite bad memory issues and is effectively dead.

I was considering an Athlon x4 750k based system with a mid range graphics card but if I need more oomph I'd like to know because I really would like to play elite.

Hmm... if you'll give me the price range you're thinking about, I should be able to suggest something.

Personally I'd go with an Intel chip (i5 if you don't want to splurge on an i7) 8 gigs of decent ram (16 if memory is cheap at the moment) and a "decent" graphics card. It doesn't need great gear. I guess I'm very risk averse since I like going for Intel and GeForce.

People messing about in Sidewinders. It's all fun and games, until somebody loses an eye...

I just got confirmation of my name request: CMDR Three reporting for duty. I didn't fancy being CMDR id3nt1ty. I often shorten id3nt1ty to id3, so I thought CMDR 3 .... CMDR Three. CMDR Zero was already taken, but One and Two were available...

My premium beta experience has been more stable than Adepts so far, so I've been visiting some of the systems and doing a bit of trading. The visuals are stunning!

Trading seems a bit grindy but that's always going to be the case at the start, and I think it will certainly improve with more systems to visit. Combat is fun, but there is no system for rewarding damage to a ship, so unless you get the killing blow - you don't get the bounty.

I've had a few interesting interdictions so far, but being ready to run has saved me every time. Only my recent liquor run to the anarchy system required a repair, but I still made  a profit.

I've only been blown up once docking, and that's because I try and dock FA off. I need better throttle control to master that though, otherwise FA docking is simple with lateral thrust on the throttle thumb stick. Seems like 6 DOF there would be awesome!

So along with my name change, I got my save reset. It wasn't too much of an issue though, because I already had my trade route figured out. After an hour and a half of trading I had enough for a second pulse laser and insurance, so I headed out to the low intensity combat zone in Eranin. 30 minutes later I docking with 100% hull and an extra 5000 credits! That second pulse laser really makes a difference to combat. I'd like to try some of the high intensity combat zones, and also see how trading goes with more capital to invest.

Watch out for other players id3nt1ty. Some are just hunting scalps, and there are exploits for infinite money at this point. You see a Cobra or an Eagle with a hollow marker on the scanner... get ready to run. By the time they open fire on you, it's probably too late.

Greedy & impatient Adept wants the next patch! Why doesn't Frontier deliver it to me on a silver platter already? Waah! Waah!

Waah?

PS. The game may be just a little unstable on my machine to play right now...

Gorgeous trailer at the E3, all with the game-engine visuals.
