Elite: Dangerous - OUT NOW!
Re: Elite: Dangerous - in Standard Beta (50£)
Go for the Anaconda.
Re: Elite: Dangerous - in Standard Beta (50£)
Andon and Solarflux, I have a way of making money for you that doesn't include trading or bounty hunting.
Go to the anarchy system with Freeport (LP something) and look for the signal sources (I don't know if there's a special place where you need to go, you may need to ask around on the forums). A large percentage of the time, you're supposed to find gold canisters floating in space, either with pirates defending their stash, or free, but with a limited time window before the pirates turn up.
People claim to have earned a fully upgraded Cobra with just that. Going into the system, and loading up on gold / fighting pirates until the cargo bay is full, then heading out to Freeport to sell the stuff. I think both of you would find that more entertaining than trading. The person writing about it says he went. Sidewinder -> Viper -> Cobra
Maybe swap back into a sidewinder, and equip it well.

Re: Elite: Dangerous - in Standard Beta (50£)
I might try it once I get some decent weapons on my Cobra. Thanks Adept.
Re: Elite: Dangerous - in Standard Beta (50£)
I tried this and didn't come across anything other than people trying to kill me. You have been warned.
Re: Elite: Dangerous - in Standard Beta (50£)
While battling a bot Sidewinder in my Cobra MKIII the bot decided to fly straight into me. I could not dodge it in time. This resulted in me being destroyed (even though I had full shields, stood nearly still and had max power to shields). Is this a bug? I find it especially frustrating, since I only just got the cobra. In my estimate of the insurance money I miscalculated by 142 credits. That means I am now stuck to the Sidewinder again and I must say I really don't feel much like grinding all over again after having just spent several days on it (I don't have time to play much).
Edit: the sidewinder had a yellow status sitting still 1000k away. It then switched to red, started accelerating, driving straight into me. Managed to take at least 1 circle of shielding off too before it hit me. How weak is the Cobra?

Sounds like a bug. I would ticket that.
At leat in Alpha 4 / Premium Beta builds the Cobra was significantly tougher than a sidewinder. What you describe sounds completely like a bug in the collision damage code.
If you want to take a break, I'm climbing into bigger ships, and I can afford to replace that cobra for you fairly soon (like in about a week or two).

In Premium Beta there was some specific area in the system where you needed to go. It may still be the case. I can ask aboutg the specifics.

Re: Elite: Dangerous - in Standard Beta (50£)
That is really kind of you Adept. For now I will make a ticket and do some bounty hunting to earn cash again.
Re: Elite: Dangerous - in Standard Beta (50£)
So far the advice I've gotten for finding that pirate gold in unidentified signal sources has been "Get thee to Styx or LP 98-132(freeport)"
Solarflux, I'd be kind of curious to know how the new cannons work. I have a suspicion that a sidey armed with two of those (or a cannon and beam laser) will be death incarnate in the right hands

Re: Elite: Dangerous - in Standard Beta (50£)
Normal cannon or multicannon?

Fixed cannons. They are like tank guns! I'm in love <3
There is more music, and better small fighter tactics at the Federal Distress beacon (near Eranin 2). I can heartily recommend going there to fight with a cannon armed sidewinder. It's epic.

Hehe, I love the boom boom they make. Also decent damage. Fire speed and clip size is really small though. Btw, is there a way to reload guns when you are halfway through the clip? I could not find a key for it in the control settings.

You can't reload on the fly. It's really weird. They have a few odd design decisions like that, same with the multicannons.

Re: Elite: Dangerous - in Standard Beta (50£)
Latest newsletter suggests that the gravy train is closing on trading, possibly effective immediately. I think my window of getting an Anaconda in the Beta just closed. Too slow Adept...
