But not until I figure out how to play the bloody thing.

Does the Zoom mod allow you to zoom out? it was shit not being able to zoom out enough to select all my troops at once to put them all in one group. Plus I couldnt see anything; the HUD covers 2/3 of the screen which makes it bad enough to see anything anyway.

Is there a mod for that?

I don't know about a mod to reduce the HUD, but the zoom mod does allow you to zoom out - quite far in fact, I think that will be good enough for you. Note I haven't tried the mod with Steam, but on the manual install it worked fine and I used it lots.

PS Should be free in about 30 mins.
PPS I shotgun Eldar also (there is no fixed limit on # of people playing the same race, you could have a 6 way eldar-fest if you wanted).

Sorry I couldn't make it, Percival (the dog, not the troll) as busy being agent for my sister; she's about the sign for Nuneaton Town Ladies so we had to go to contract negotiations

Awesome.

No worries, Gandalf and I had a quick blast where I got effectively taken out of the game by invisible Tau in the first two minutes leaving Gandalf to suffer a slow murderous death.

I did managed to prolong my demise by shrouding most of my bases, but somehow they got revealed and that was that. Not sure if it was because my power generators got destroyed or something.

I can confirm the zoom mod works and is easy to install manually (just follow the readme in the download).

id3nt - it was probably either lack of power - or maybe they had a unit there who could see invisible units. About the invisible units, I found this list of who can infiltrate (ie become invisible) and who can see them, which may be useful. It looks a bit different to what we discussed yesterday on mumble, maybe you were looking at a list for a previous version? It would explain why your Farseer couldn't see them when you thought it would. A warlock (leader unit) on your guardians was all you needed it seems.

Yesterday's game also showed what I mentioned earlier about AI performance being erratic. The Tau put constant pressure on id3nt and brought along upgraded troops etc. On my side I had AI eldar, who did harass me a bit but I could deal with it, and when I went to their base after about 15 mins, all they had was a basic barracks, their starting building and a power plant!!!

I did finish off the Eldar and might've been able to defeat the Tau 1v1, but I didn't really have the inclination as it was supposed to be a multiplayer game. Plus I didn't know my army very well. Turns out I was only able to play Dark Eldar or Sisters Of Battle (ie the armies that came with Soulstorm) online - though I could play any army in Skirmish mode.

Finally, I think the condition for being defeated is once you have no buildings that can produce any units. So if id3nt had built even a webway gate in my base at some point, he could've continued. I think he meant to build something in my base but never got round to it. Just a handy tip for dealing with worst-case scenarios :)

Yes Rav, talented football playing ladies. They're in the ladies equivalent of the Championship. First game of the season is away to Newcastle. Ooff.

I may also be able to get frustrated this evening/join in, depends what the wife says. May see y'all later.

Chaos Rising is also cheap on steam now - is it worth getting?

DOW2 is a good game, but overall opinion is DOW1 is better. I won't be getting it, there's more than enough depth/enjoyment to be had from DOW1.

Lots of people have been complaining about not having all the races available. This is not just us, it's quite a common issue at the moment it seems, there's lots of posts about it on the Steam forums. From reading that and faffing about with the registry, it seems CD-keys are not being registered/stored for the earlier games, Soulstorm needs these in order to unlock those earlier factions. It's an ongoing issue which there doesn't seem to be much progress on. It's a bit patchy... so id3 does have Tau & Necron, but at least some of the others of us don't.

One sort-of way round it, I think, is to play Dark Crusade instead of Soulstorm.... I think all the factions on there are unlocked apart from the ones that are in Soulstorm (Dark Eldar & SIsters of Battle), I think most people would rather have IG/Tau/Necron?

Oh, I hadn't even noticed that it was DOW2...

The temporary work around of playing Dark Crusade sounds very sensible.

As does setting the AI to never choosing Necron.
