What are you playing?

I wanna play, too!

Or something like that.

Anyways, lately I've been playing a bit of Endless Space (a let's play series here to show the game) for my space 4X needs. Haven't played a whole lot yet, but it is quite enjoyable. I was/am particularly surprised at how even on normal difficulty I have to carefully balance fleet strength, research, population growth, expansion etc. (and I'm not top score! :O). I'd say it's superior to MoO 2, at least.

And the other game (another let's play to show it too) is Warlock - Master of the Arcane. The best Master of Magic replacement yet... quite Civilization 5 in style so you don't get as detailed battles unfortunately, and the magic system is a bit less interesting than in MoM but still great, all in all.

Warlock is pretty cool - it looks like Civ5, but the differences are fundamental.

As far as 4X goes, I'm still waiting for the day Sword of the Stars 2 will be decently playable :D

Best Master of Magic replacement is Dominions 3, which I play in multiplay matches with my friends. Awesome game with an ocean of depth.

Picked up Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion on steam.  Still playing rather defensively, enjoying setting up 'campaigns' for my capital ships... till I ran into an AI who hoarded up 11 caps  :o

I've got Rebellion as well. Carriers are still good, although not quite how I remember them. I'm toying with the Vasari Rebels, and plan on making a fleet consisting of a Titan, a mobile Station, and a bunch of other stuff. It'll be slow, but it'll hit like a freight train.

I just tried out a cute little game called Wanderlust: Rebirth. It's a simple harkens to the themes of the days of Secret of Mana, but I believe it's much too short. It's had me wanting to play Seiken Densetsu 3 (Part 2 to Secret of Mana) which is 2 player co-op. If anyone wants to Hamachi and play with me on an emulator lemme know.  ;)

But what I've really been looking to recapture is the feel of some kind of Master of Magic or Heroes of Might and Magic 3 type of game. I played through a campaign in Disciples 2 but it's not cutting it for me. I'm hoping a game called Eador: Masters of the Broken World comes out and hits the sweet spot for me. The last time I was really impressed with a fantasy TBS was via the Fall From Heaven 2 mod for Civ 4 which was amazing. Dominions 3 was great as well but I need to find someone to play it with.

Edit: I tried out Rebellion a while back too! Titans are really powerful... too much so, really. Vasari Rebels esp. are really broken (imba) in multiplayer last I checked. :P

Drox operative. Great fun, especially as multiplayer.

I tried Drox Operative out! It was really fun... But I could tell it was going to get boring real quick. :`( Too many monsters spawning in empty space and not enough of a drive to help the randomly generated races... It felt too rogue-like. FTL does rogue-likes way better.

Anyone try SPAZ AKA Space Pirates and Zombies? People should just make a game like SPAZ already but with either a strong Rule of Cool storyline ala Star Control 2, or a great single-player dynamic random economy/generation/etc. way beyond Drox's...

Speaking of Star Control 2, I'm so glad Skylanders is such a cash cow for Toys for Bob. I wonder if they still have some of their old guard over there and if they'll ever make something great like SC2 again now that they're well-known and relevant in the gaming industry again.

I'm going to be trying Guild Wars 2 next since I was such a fan of the first one.

I just finished the story of Just Cause 2. Now I have to finish the other 70% of the game xD. The game is really fun (and funny): you're basically a terrorist that needs to destroy as much as possible and cause as much chaos as possible. Also the game honours its name, there's a lot of stuff that is "just 'cause" that makes it really fun (like, you can steal flying planes/helicopters or jump on the top of your plane while going at top speed because fuck logic). The game is not realistic, it's just fun xD.
