Which is the best carbine for NC? (Light Assault / engineer)

I'm thinking about using station credits to unlock either the Gauss Compact S or the Razor GD-23. Help me out, if anybody has tried either / both. I'm especially interested in controllable recoil and long-range accuracy.

I'd also be interested in opinions on the usability of the shotguns.

Shotguns are crap! Made the mistake of buying one, useless.
