RT's RL Update
RT's RL Update
A continuation of the now-hidden and archived thread. Update us on what's going on in your life!
Re: RT's RL Update
Did we run against some kind of limit?
Re: RT's RL Update
With the reorganization, forums are publicly readable. Didn't want to plaster possibly personal stuff all over the internet without people knowing it was being plastered.
Re: RT's RL Update
The whole forum is public now? Ouch. Expect to see less from me then.
Re: RT's RL Update
RL update:
- Bought a new house with my gf
- Have to sell my current house (ongoing)
- Going on holiday for a month travelling South-Africa with my gf
- Getting sport injuries for the first time in my life, the problem of getting older I guess
Games:
- Playing "Rocket League" when I have time, with Gandalf and Ion
- Playing "Pillars of Eternity" single player
- Still waiting for "Star Citizen" to get finished (excited though)

Well, I did [url=http://rtsquad.matchfire.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=555] make a post on it and there were no objections...
Also, just in case it wasn't clear - Old stuff is available to anyone who could have viewed it at that time. It's not publicly viewable. If anyone wants a specific thing moved back into public view, you can request it (I didn't really see much that would have made it worth sorting everything).
As far as my RL update goes: Sickish. Nose is running. Spending more time wiping it than doing anything else, it feels.

Re: RT's RL Update
Since we don't have an active thread on the Reorganization AFAIK (current one's in Legacy and the Announcements has replies disabled), wanted to chime in on privacy here. Seems like notjarvis did object to public forums in a manner, with Bard partially agreeing with him. Hence the Legacy forum suggestion which was very sensible.
Adept's also against full public mode. I agree with him, but mostly just for RL stuff. So with us 2 latecomers that's 2-4 objections if you wanna look at it that way. I'm fine with 90% of the forums being public, but RL stuff should be private. I move we make a private sub-forum, with the sub-heading "mostly for RL stuff" even if it's just for this one thread.
We may live in a world where our governments spy on us, police can use our texts as leads and evidence, Google maps our entire personalities from patterns, and passwords are easy to crack, but I remain a privacy advocate. I don't even like having the door open in a room when I'm home alone!
Admittedly, this thread is like 50% of this forum's non-Blood Bowl traffic. But I don't think someone will be dissuaded to join just because they can't read my RL update on my opinion on hot chocolate fudge sundaes or what I did on a Sunday morning.

Congrats on the new house, Fell! Also, injuries suck.
Sickness also sucks, Andon. I find the only good part of a cold is the gives on the opportunity to take some over those over-the-counter sleeping aids (like Nyquil here in the States) and sleep like a baby.
------
I've been on a health craze of late. Run about 3-4 times per week for 3 miles at a time (or sometimes just a timed 'fast' 1-2 miles). 1x a week is a Long Run, which I've got up to 6.5 miles (bit more than a 10k, equal to a quarter-marathon). At this rate, if I keep adding ~2 miles a month to my long run, might be doing a half-marathon by December!
I'm also lifting. Every other day I do Strong Lifts 5x5, which is a weightlifting program centered around 5 sets of 5 repetitions of classic, big compound movements like Squats or Bench Press. My weights consist of sand wrapped in old dufflebags I had. Total cost of my weightset was $10 worth of sand, heh. Instead of this program I also sometimes just do my own custom fullbody workout, which is mostly just natural exercises like pushups.
I'm also into supplements and minor nootropics. In the last year or so, I've noticed my age catching up with me, so I've started drinking caffeine (low amounts, like <150 mg daily consumption). I added multivitamins since I've been dieting so I can't get lose weight *and* eat a bunch of fruits and veggies (too few calories to work with). For sleep, I usually take melatonin (low amount, like 300 mcg. That's mcg not mg) at night to sleep, works wonders in conjunction with light therapy. For late nights out, like at a Miami concert, I have a sleeping concoction I take the next day to immediately normalize my sleeping schedule so it doesn't ruin my sleepcycle for the week. As my final addition to my supplements, I've added in omega-3s in the form of either fish oil tablets, shrimp, sardines, anchovies, or walnuts.
My exercise combined with some calorie counting has resulted in losing 15 pounds (6.9 kg abouts) in 3 months! Down to 185 from 200lb. Not sure yet how much more I want to lose, but I'll probably stop between 170-180 lb.

Re: RT's RL Update
Bard's and NotJ's objections were nothing to do with privacy and were on how the public forums would be moderated.
One of the reasons why I'm not for putting up walls is that's what led us to the very situation we're at - Where the only thing that goes on is blood bowl stuff. And half, or more, of the 'Old-School' players don't even touch Bloodbowl. The changes were intended to promote discussion outside of the two or three topics we stuck to.

Re: RT's RL Update
In terms of RL stuff, the Facebook group seems to be filling that niche well (although it's early days admittedly).
Re: RT's RL Update
I got a new job, which will allow us to move back to England. Gotta try and sell the house before everything really goes tits up here in the UK.

Nice work! My parents run a lot and got me to give it a go too. I did the Couch to 5km program, and then a 10km race before I convinced myself I don't really like running. Currently my exercise consists of sprinting to the train station on my bike because I'm late. I think I need to find some sport that I enjoy doing, because I'll be working from home next month. I might have to go on a "commute" in the mornings anyway to get myself into work mode.

Re: RT's RL Update
Congrats on the new job! The pound sterling has really taken a beating lately, eh?
In addition to its health benefits, it's crazy how positive cardio or even lifting are for one's mood. I'm practically never unhappy these days (even when there's cause to be!) and far less irritable. A good run, swim, etc. is a huge mood reset and booster, sort of like taking an effective nap or a cold shower. I'm considering working out in the morning as it sets the tone both in terms of discipline and mood for the rest of the day.

Part of me's not sure if moving to England's all that wise right now. Congrats on the new job though!
Where will you be based?

+1, stay in Scotland & stay in the EU!
Since we're talking about health etc, I measured my pulse (when almost asleep) the other day at 46. I was quite impressed with that. Normal during the day is around 58. I used a health check machine they brought into the office and it said I was top 18% for my gender/age.

I'll be working from home next month. I might have to go on a "commute" in the mornings anyway to get myself into work mode.
Yeah, this is my main worry about working from home full time/most of the time, that I'd lose my main source of exercise, 9 miles cycling a day.

In 48 hours, I'll be on a plane to Texas to sell stuff at a convention. It'll be fun!
