Very Early Season 8 Thread

Postby Raveen » Wed Nov 25, 2015 1:48 pm

I'm thinking forwards to Season 8 because I'm bloody sick of Halfwits.

What teams do you all think you'll take next season (and year most likely)?

Pro-Elves are tempting but I've never played Norse which could be fun. I think I ought to play a proper agility team after the Khemri and Chaos Dorfs which is why I'm leaning Elf.

I could bring back the Dorfs but I think they'll lie in wait for the Wanderers returning in order to end Alan once and for all :)

Update - as of 11th January here's what people seem to be thinking:

Abom - Goblins, possibly Skaven
Daigoro - Pro-Elves
Gandalf - Ogres
Id3 - Necro
La - Skaven, possibly Vampires
Moose - Undead
NJ - Dark Elves / Orcs
Raveen - Pro-Elves, Chaos Dwarves, possibly Norse. Maybe something else entirely. Possibly Dark Elves or Necro.
Red Lion - A grab bag of leftovers and rejects. So presumably Underworld then :)

I'm assuming by the lack of a "non-bb players tone" in your post that you meant to put this here rather than the General Discussions thread? I think you can move it back if not. :)

I'm going with Team Shrek for sure, since they have an agility 4 ogre now. Looking forwards to some crazy antics, no doubt to be foiled by double 1's, boneheads etc. in true ogre fashion. The world record for most SPP on a snotling must be within sight too.

Ah, I wondered why I couldn't move this here - it had already happened.

I am thinking about underworld (because they are the best BB team), skaven (if Abom doesn't carry on with his then I'd like an easier team for a change), or vampires (because they are the second best BB team). Hmm.

I'm not rolling a new team so I'll be Delves or Orcs as all the others are officially retired.

(Norse are an interesting team. Think I made a mess of the skill ups for my Norse team which made them effectively weaker as their TV went up.
Tricky to know what to do with them though. Mostly ST3 means they struggle to play a pure Bashy Game, whereas they will get out passed or out ran by other teams which can do either of those things well, I'd like to see someone run the Norse better than I did ....)

Discussion point - how are Norse and Amazons different? Should they be played differently?

I'd say they are like Humans with a 'leg up' to start and a bit of variety; but without Gandalf-style jammy level ups then both just can't cut the mustard comparatively as they develop.

I think if I played either I would get bored of them after a few seasons.

I'm very much enjoying the Ducklingz again at the minute, but haven't committed to anything for next season yet... I have been tempted by Pro Elves too just to 'round out' my BB experience, and to see if I can last a season with them without vomiting in disgust at myself (Please, don't tell Percy). There's the gobbos but I dont think I'm ready for another stunty season just yet, and the Humans require a bit more thought to play.

So to answer your question Rav, I dunno yet because I still have goals for this season - 6 casualties to go!!!

Norse are a lesser option to Amazons IMO as Dodge is a much more flexible skill than Block.

Amazons always have tactical options to fall back in defence, or dodge out and screen against the advance.
This is not there for the Norse, and their Bashing Game is not reliable enough to get in the face of a cage or anything like that.

Block is a great skill, and they have a couple of Ulfwereners to bring the strength up, so I think they have to be played with a Hitting game (pretty much), with the potential for a bit of variety thrown in, with the passer there as a backup option, but AG3 and no starting catch is too flaky there)

They are designed to be a bashy team, but are actually the Weakest and riskiest of the Bashy teams, the low armour, means they can end significantly down on numbers. and majority ST3 means they are fairly easy to overwhelm versus teams with more ST4.

These hundreds of thousands of games seem to support your argument! Amazon consistently top 3, norse consistently middle.

I'm surprised at how low Chaos is in that Table. I know they are skill-less at Low TV, but the 4 ST 4 players are pretty Good,, and they should be reasonably solid I would have thought more solid than the teams with nega traits anyhoo

NJ, the first table is just for tournaments, so they will have, say, 5 skills to assign - and Chaos start off with very few skills. I'd imagine this is the explanation.

The other tables show them as lower mid table, generally. There's been various explanations for this, such as beginners see the potential for violence, or have been on the receiving end of ClawPOMB and so pick Chaos, but don't actually have many BB skills or understand the game much.

Yeah I saw the other tables after I posted.

I might go create a new Chaos team at some Point. I really enjoyed playing them and there's a simplicity to the team I enjoyed.

He's probably referring to me here... I rolled up a Chaos team in the hope of making an even more violent team than me Orks - I envy mutation skills so much - but La absolutely destroyed them in the first game that I had to retire them there and then.
