Friday is the only evening I can't do, I'm afraid. Tonight or Thursday, or sometime next week?

Id3 and I played our game ahead of time! Quick recap: lots of 1s, more 1s, a bomb meant for Armageddon itself, Ripper getting MVP, and a cheatery ghoul getting the ball and scoring to make it 1-0 for the Fables!

Good game! Man, this is the second game in a row I keep forgetting about tackle and it ends up costing me (or diving tackle, in Gandalf's case) :( ! Still fun as always. :D I think these gobbos need a failed season to really get their heads on correctly.

Well, the Fables hung on to a 1-0 win vs the Goblins, with both teams suffering at the hands of Nuffle. We burnt through six rerolls in the first five turns, although I think Abom probably suffered the worst of it.

Abom won the toss and elected to receive, keeping the ball safe in his half for a couple of turns. I sacrificed Ghost Wolf to take out the Looney, but it didn't quite go to plan, as the Loonie dodged away from the first block and then Ghost stumbled at his feet in a Frenzy. I thought that was going to be it, for Ghost, but somehow he only got KO'd in the following turn and the Loonie got sent off. We traded a few double red skulls for a couple of turns, then I managed to get the ball free, but didn't escape well enough to score. The first half ended 0 - 0 with both of us hoping for better dice in the second half.

Abom started the second half by kicking an exceedingly short kick to me, forcing me to rush players forward to secure the ball. I loosely screened the ball carrier from the Punch Dummies, as the Bomber was on he field. We traded a few blows and I think I finally started to break some armour at this point, sending some Goblins off KO'd and one dead. Abom had already caused a number of casualties to my own team, but thankfully Regeneration helped keep most people on their feet, apart from Martin van Ratten who was finally put quite firmly to rest by his former Coach. The Fables pushed forward and managed to sneak Fairy Godmother past the defending Goblins after a further spate of bad luck ended one of Abom's turns prematurely. I stalled out a turn to try and give me more chance of defending.

After scoring, we both set up to try and deal with the inevitable throw team-mate attempt coming up, but a perfectly deep kick by Bagheera left the ball in the Goblins end zone. Three turns in a row the Iguana-On-A-Stick the II failed to pick up the ball, putting to rest any ideas of an equalizer however Abom did his best to put Fairy Godmother to rest too, but she survived on a wing and a prayer.

I'll leave it to someone else to try and interpret the dice stats. Well played though Abom, it was very close at times despite the bad luck! I feel lucky to have gotten away with that win.

Dice stat highlights!

id failed 4 out of 9 GFI's
Abom's dodging was fairly poor, but at least his Really Stupid was slightly better than average, and better than last game's awfulness
2 of Abom's 4 pickup attempts failed, a bit below average but among the most crucial rolls in the game.
2D6 - both of you had pretty bad armour/injury rolls
8 double red skulls between you (4 each) epic fail!
Apart from that id had the better of the block dice, getting lots of defender downs, important versus stunty teams (expected 30.5% of 2-die blocks, actual 35.7%). For Abom the more important stat is DD + DS (as very little dodge on Fables!), expected 55.5% actual 51.7%.

Basically all summed up by id's opening paragraph :)

A bunch of those double red skulls in that game came early in the turn(s), contributing to the all-around redonculousness of it all.

Fear not the lackluster dice who barely show up for the battle, but the shiny dice that prop you up then backstab you at just the right moment.

Well... I thought it wasn't going to be as one-sided as the predictions, but it was, despite Moose mangling many of my Mastercheesers.

5-0 to the Skaven

Moose was a bit too risky for dice that weren't going his way, I think, with 4 gutter runners around to pounce on dropped balls.

Well; The Ducks & the Doctors did a bit of a Quantum Leap (OH, I thought of a Dr for you NJ - Dr Sam Beckett) and forgot which way they are meant to play the game;

http://gandalfgames.net/bbdb/matchdetai ... tch_id=121

NJ shattered poor PilrOrc the cripple's neck with the first action of the game (-AG) but I (probably should'nt of) apoth'ed him to the reserves, just like an Elf Apoth... Then overall NJ KO'ed a Black Orc, another Black Orc and Percy, and Casualty'ed Reginald & Goblotelli - he was as violent as an Orc. Then Apoth'ing PilrOrc looked like a bad choice when IbrahimavOrc - just beginning to show his potential - got murdered.

The Ducks felt as frail as Bowie Elves.

NJ made his first whoopsie by trying to stall in the first half and the Ducks got a last ditch tackle and just about protected the ball to the end of the half to keep it 0-0.

2nd half Percy was still in a coma, and everyone looked to PilrOrc to see what the chuff was going on. The Ducks didn't really have a clue what to do being so many players down; and were happy to sit in a cage having a group cuddle and screaming for the hurting to stop. PirlOrc went off KO'ed and the Ducks somehow gathered to lose ball (the Ducks skills were beginning to show a LOT towards the end of the game) and then couldnt believer their luck when NJ left a lovely back-door escape; and seen as the Orcs were being as frail as Elves they thought why not try playing like an elf - dodge, run, long pass, catch sprint to score right on the whistle. 1-0 to the Duckz.

It was all very bizarre. The jammy win somehow takes the pain away of losing IbrahimavOrc so young; PilrOrc's fault for hogging all the Apoth'.

NJ apparently had a wizard; but nuffle decided he was already being violent enough and though a fireball that worked would be too mean on the Ducks (Obviously...)

He also took Morg; who is a right git; especially when Percy goes off for the whole bloody game.

Good game NJ - it was tense for me; I was on the back foot for the whole game and feel like I stole it at the end - the difference in skills I think was what won it for the ladz.

The Bowies win their first game and limp away without any permanent injuries.

The TV bloat (is there really any other word for a level 4 Snotling?) on the Ogres allowed me to buy Jordell, Eldril, a wizard and all the apothecaries.

In the first half I kicked and the ogres picked up with the Ag3 Ogre and threw it towards the Ag 4 Ogre. Unfortunately the throw went wild and landed free. The elves got hold of it and passed it over a Snot who promptly intercepted it. He then got punched and the Bowies broke off down the right flank with the ball. at this point I became aware that scoring meant facing up to another Ogre LOS and resolved to stall until turn 8. the ball moved in a half cage with surrounding cloud down the right and then over to the left. The Ogres hurt 1 elf lineman and KOd a few more but on turn 8 I walked it home. The half was made a lot easier by the Ogres boneheading at every opportunity.

1-0 at half time.

In the second half I received and went down the right again. This time I didn't have the man power to hold on for long so scored quickly, figuring a 3 turn Ogre TD left time for a 3-1 final score.

2-0.

The ball went deep and the Ogres caged into the middle of my half. I swarmed around them to try and isolate the ball retriever but I pulled the net too tight and the pass went through. The cage moved up but I wizarded the ogre with the ball. A brave elf dodged out of many tacklezones ran in but failed to get the ball. The ogre on the other hand managed get up (a feat in itself this game) got the ball and GFId it home.

2-1

I received again and a pitch invasion left elves and Ogres flattened in equal measure. I scored quickly again figuring that the Ogres would be hard pressed to score in 2 turns and I would stand a chance of a cheeky turnover TD if they overextended themselves.

3-1

The ogres got a 1TTD with a thrown snot who landed in 2 tacklezones. Really nicely done!

3-2

Nothing but SPP farming now although I forgot the Ogres had a turn after me so left myself open to more blocks than I'd have liked. Survived them all though.

£-2 to the Bowies in the end.

A mad game and Gandalf had horrible bonehead luck in the first half. Made up for at least a bit by getting the 1TTD in the second.

A second 20/20 match for the Bowies and lots of level ups!

My comments to add to Rav's...

I failed 11 out of 32 boneheads in the first half, over 1 in 3!! It's just boring & rubbish, not being able to do anything of note. The bright points in the first half were a) a snotling intercepting it, and b) not once but TWICE a threw a snotling towards the ball carrier and stunned an elf :D ALL for naught due to all the boneheads but it was a bright point in an otherwise frustrating second half. The game was effectively over as a contest after that first half, it would've taken a run of terrible dice or a bad mis-play from Rav for him not to keep the lead from there.

The second half was fun. I figured I needed crazy stuff to happen to get back into the game so I worked on the assumption that crazy stuff would happen. Only failing 5 of 36 boneheads helps, indeed I only used 2 of my re-rolls. The first TD was great elfball, I had the ball in my own touchdown zone and in the space of 1 turn got it to 3 squares from his. The 1TTD is I think the first one I've ever achieved. Fantastic stuff! I may well make the cup after all, 4 TD's in 3 matches is heady stuff for a team that averaged less than 0.75 TD a game before season 8. Post game I got MVP on Donkey (almost at level 5 now), a normal roll on the +AG Strong Arm ogre, and a double on the brave snotling who scored the TD, so expect an unexpected skill on a snotling.

Dice : All my 1's in the first half, as well as failing that pass early on (25% chance of failure) as good as ended the match as a contest. Rav had marginally better 2D6 and the block dice were fairly equal at the success end (both above average). I managed a red skull at best 3 times and both down 4 times, Rav however rolled pushed or better for every block.

Stat of the match... meters passed was 54-22.... in favour of the ogres :D
Also worth noting the elves had 3 apothecaries!! They weren't all needed in the end, as in the first half the ogres were too busy rolling 1's and the second half too busy scoring TD's.
