What are you piloting?
Re: What are you piloting?
2x4srm and 4x small laser now.
it's fun untill a raven starts running circles around me and takes me apart.
I need that xl300 badly >.<

Re: What are you piloting?
I can verify the dubious statement that the game is fun to play again.
It is.
My 1srm4 4mpl jenner is not only a viable option, but it seems that the lag-shield is somewhat repaired, ECM nerfed, and I end matches with kills and assists not seen in my stats for a long time.

Re: What are you piloting?
I got myself the hero mech Cicada (and named it the NoisyCricket)
Amazing fun. 4 x med laser, and 2 x streak SRM 2. It goes like a bat out of hell. 133.6 km/h forward and 90 km/h in reverse without any upgrades.
It did cost and arm and a leg, but I still have plenty of founder money left.

Re: What are you piloting?
What do you folks consider the best place to store ammo. I made the mistake of putting Gauss rounds in my chest... once. Right now I am using my arms because I'm still rather combat effective after losing them.

Re: What are you piloting?
Legs or head.
Re: What are you piloting?
If you store ammo in the chest, does it matter? When the chest is breached, you mech blows up anyway. Is there something like the ammo blows up once the armour is breached before the rest of the durability is depleted? (I don't know what the hull under the armour is called, but it has some durability as well.)

Re: What are you piloting?
Well, I seemed to go down rather quickly, and now it shows when you die kind of a 'damage assessment.' What it was showing me under last damage was ammunition explosion.

Re: What are you piloting?
The chest consists of armor, items and internal structure. You die when your internal structure is depleted or when a critical item (engine, ammo) is destroyed. Both have limited health. So when you store ammo in your chest you greatly increase the chance of getting destroyed.
Re: What are you piloting?
Right. So having some med lasers in the chest can actually soak up damage? Laser gets knocked out rather than that damage blowing up the engine? If it's ordnance and you don't have CASE you can die as soon as the armour is breached. I think I got it.

Re: What are you piloting?
I dont think lasers would soak up damage. I think that damage to an empty spot would just count as 'no damage'

Re: What are you piloting?
On the "what are you piloting" subjet.
a) I returned my founders cat' to the 2 x LRM 15 + 4 x med laser configuration. Two jumpjets, Artemis for the missiles, Endo Steel structure and double heat sinks. I had to downgrade the engine to do it, but I now have very close to maxed out armour and good punch at range and in close combat. I'm considering swapping the missiles to LRM 20 + SRM 6 if the tonnage works out.
b) I also put Artemis on my Pretty Baby hero-Awesome's twin SRM 6 launchers and moved all the SRM ammo into it's legs. A significant performance upgrade there as well, it seems. I'm not sure whether to get ER-PPCs instead of regular ones. The heat management would get harder, but I would have no minimum range to worry about.
c) X-5 Cicada "NoisyCricket" works like a charm, even though running around at 130 km/h isn't exactly my cup of tea.
d) The Yen-Lo-Wang is my hardest mech to do well with. The AC 20 is arm mounted, which means it tends to miss a lot... not to mention my enemies just love cutting the damn thing off.

Re: What are you piloting?
With fluxe's help I'm tweaking the Jenner to more useable.
1000xp more 'till the torso twist speed uprgade, and ~2000 in-game$ for the fastest engine.
Right now it's a bit sluggish at 111kph and it's torso twist is a bit slow, but with 4 double heat sinks the 4 mpls fire fine
Walk-over games where one side wins almost unscathed are much rarer, but I had an unlucky streak last night.

Re: What are you piloting?
I wouldnt go for the biggest engine Morde. My advice would be the 280, which leaves you enough tons for a good heat efficiency and armor.
