In a match of breathtaking mediocrity, Gandalf's new Human Team, Deep Pass Niners, lost 1-0 to RL3's underworld team. First half the Humans received, and advanced into the opposition half but then didn't really know what to do with it. The underworld piled in (not literally) and the ball went loose, people hit each other, my Ogre rolled both down & injured himself for the next match, then it was half time.

Second half the underworld received and were generally quite cowardly to start with. Then they injured my only catcher, -1MV (apoth'ed into dead!). With 10 players vs 8 they advanced and got clear down the middle. However the humans got back (the few that were left) and a ruckus happened 5 or 6 squares from the end zone. It was tense stuff as the re-rolls ran out, and RL3 rolled a double 1 for a dodge he needed to score at one point, but eventually he broke free and scored on turn 16. I had one turn left and my passer managed a pass - and then promptly got MVP for an insta-level up (normal roll). I also rolled a 6 which helps to offset the fact I will have to retire a 70k piece after 1 game.

My block dice were kinda sucky but then so were RL3's dodges. The game played like 2 coaches not really knowing what they were doing, but fun was had nonetheless. I couldn't adjust to having to find 2d blocks (often without the block skill) rather than them just being handed to me on a plate with It's A Sign.

4 casualties were caused all game... 2 by the warpstone troll (who got a level up as a result) and 2 by Quark. Not really what you expect from a Ferengi Lineman but there we go.

Iceweb Pödcåstêrs vs No Stable Isotopes

The Norse choose to receive the ball and dominate the first half. The underworld players get shoved around by frenzy and a good few find themselves in the crowd. I played a standard caging game to move the ball up the pitch and then stalled for 3 or more turns in the corner using the time to beat up the skaven much as possible including 3 fouls on star blitzer Technetium. I didn't get sent off but I didn't break armour either, even with 4 assists.

I scored on turn 6 to allow the Isotopes to try and score and not be desperate enough to try the goblin throw. I was able to keep them out of the endzone time.

1-0 at half time.

To be continued

On the second half the underworld gathered the ball and were able to break through the diminishing hordes of hairy men hairy pants.

Percy had come a cropper to the Warpstone Troll, new recruit, Scott Prime, got splattered to death by one of the Blitzers and lots of others were having a nap after a bit of rough jostling.

With the battle of attrition working against me because there are always more goblins i got phenomenally lucky and forced ID to score.

We set up again and the ball came my way. I gathered it up and diced up the left flank, hoping to use a side cage and frenzy to clear off any threats. It didn't work out like that but I cleared a route through for my runner. A late score saw the game to its end.

2-1 to the Norse.

Presumably the cup is coming up after the league. However I probably don't want to play Sunday 8pm on 26th June, 3rd July and 10th July, on account of Euro 2016 being on. Depends on who is playing exactly. 3rd July is potentially a quarter-final for England or Wales, and 10th is the final.

Well Daigaro got screwed over by Nuffle, losing the toss at the start and then losing all the armour rolls. With so many Daemons missing from the pitch, there wasn't a lot to stop the Isotopes storming their way up the middle of the field. Two turns were lost to some questionable choices at the end zone, but it all turned out all right in the end as Nuffle blessed the Isotopes once again and the ball scattered into the waiting hands of a Goblin who hand just failed to pick it up.

Daigaro was unable to score back in the two turns left to him, and then failed to pick up the ball in his first turn of the second half. The Isotopes were able to steal the ball from under the Daemons nose and quickly scored in turn 10.

Third time's the charm for the Khorne as things started to go slightly more right for them. Once again they pushed hard down my right flank, but the Isotopes defended slightly less hard than they should have done. At this point I got handed a screaming baby. Attacking the ball carrier didn't quite go right, I think, and all of a sudden there were a lot of Goblins and Blitzers leaving the pitch injured (to some well deserved respecting no less). With a sudden player advantage the Khorne scored in their turn 16, and as I couldn't remember what I needed to do for a Throw Team Mate attempt, I decided just to try to farm some SPPs with a pass and some bashing.

Sorry you didn't get much of a chance to play Daigaro, it certainly wasn't a game to give you fever for a new season.

2-1 to the Vampires, which you wouldn't have bet on when it was 2-1 at half time, or when the Vampires went down to 3 players with the ball loose in their half. Whoops. I made 2 Blood Lust mistakes on my offensive 2nd half drive and then it all went wrong, but it didn't go very much righter for Rav either.

I'll let Gandalf do the main recap but here's a perspective from the Gobbo side:

Gobbos elect to receive, give it to Scrappa Sorehead, their first effective Pogoer usage in over a season. They setup some loose but firm cages and outbash the Nurgle, partially due to greatdice and partially due to positioning (Nurgle had ~3 players covering catchers, Gobbos had ~1 player trying to catch) + Guard. The Nurgle sort of break into the cage after the Gobbos screw up and run out of time. Scrappa Sorehead moves 10 squares away like a cowardly madman, imitating the old Skaven teams of yore, firmly out of range.

The gobbos then delay for a turn and score. 1-0 for Gobbos.

The last few turns look like it'll be easy to leave the Nurgle scoreless until Pudge the Troll trips over himself early in a turn and leaves an entire side of the pitch open for the Nurgle to march down and cage. 1-1, tie game.

2nd half is characterized by the gobbos having decent luck with positioning but terrible armor, injury, and dodge dice. They put a mob of green on the Nurgle ball. Scrappa then picks it up! Gobbos almost form a full cage, having a decent chance to score, but someone trips over themselves, leaving a Pestigor to blitz him.

They again put a mob of green on the Nurgle ball. Nurgle respond with their own flavor of decaying, smelly asparagus hues. There's a lot of whacking for a turn or 2, but the goblins begin to thin in number and Pudge again refuses to stand up actually play, stating, "I've 'ready got a conract play fo' da next season, boss, why shud I git up den?"

Image
The Punch Dummies' trolls, hard at work.

The Nurgle score: 2-1 for them. Gobbos attempt a last turn TTM, but Pudge again refuses to throw a goblin and doesn't even have the proper decency to eat him.

2-1. Nurgle win! Was a close game. A battle of pseudo-hypermobility vs raw strength that ultimately came down to the wire and down to the ragged, worn, beaten up dice.

It's too late in the evening to say much else. Abom's match report is pretty accurate. The equaliser was touch-and-go on turn 8, I got wizarded but the armour stood firm, but I still had to do a dodge, pickup, handoff and GFI to score. I nearly ran out of time to score the winner too, that was in T16 with no stalling, I was cocky about how safe my backfield was and ended up in a rotter vs goblin punchup which I eventually prevailed in.

I don't think you nearly scored in the second half... I don't think you had enough players in range to make a full cage (if you exclude the tentacled ones). I needed a reroll to get the ball carrier over though, and fortunately it didn't bounce into another goblin's hands.

My lowest number of knockdowns all season, largely due to goblins staying away from me but also due to them getting themselves hurt  Was pleased to get the 9 I needed to make it 100 for the season though.

GGWP Abom, that was soooo close! You've been unfortunate to lose both of the last 2 Goblin - Nurgle games.

Not sure if a title has ever gone down to the last turn before.
