Just finished!

First Half.

I kicked and the Goblins caged well. The Fanatic was playing well and was a right nuisance, splattering Percy from the start. I blitzed into the cage but the goblins just ran away. They didn';t get far though and I attacked again. This time the ball carrier tripped as he dodged away. The ball scattered on the half way line. I got lucky and grabbed the ball from the scrum. I couldn't get away though and the fanatic chased down my thrower and knobbled him twice.

The pogoer got the ball in the end and I could only 1D block him. I started losing players at this pint and the numbers meant that the Goblins scoring was a sure thing.

On my turn 7 I set up for a 1 turner. I didn't fancy trying a 2 turner and wanted rid of the secret weapons. The fanatic had failed his bribe and the chainsaw wasn't selected for the drive. It all went well though and Percy flung Aristotle high into the air. the wannabe Vampire landed like an acrobat and scarpered up the pitch to score.

My kick went deep but a riot meant that the Goblins had two turns to score. They elected not to play the ball though and went for mayhem instead with lots of blocks and fouls from both teams.

Second Half

The ball was kicked to me but the Goblins Blitzed. The chainsaw ran up and hacked himself unconscious.

Blitz permaturely over the All Stars gathered the ball and caged down the right flank. This then moved up into a side cage which the pogo managed to dodge into and shove the ball carrier off the pitch from. The loose ball lay in deep goblin territory and a lone gobbo scooped it up. Luckily I was able to get to him with a thrower and then Percy lumbered up to support. The Goblin with the ball scarpered and headed for safety between his trolls. This required a GFI and in a Blizzard that was a risk too far. An Underworld Goblin got the ball and lobbed it at a thrower. Being a Goblin he cocked it up but at least the ball was clear. Both teams scrabbled for the ball and there was a stupid amount of dodging. Eventually an Underworld Goblin got the ball and handed it to Gertie the Blitzer. Gertie ran off and hid behind Percy. She looked up and saw something flailing and falling out of the sky. The thrown goblin landed flat on his head knocking Gertie down and himself out. Time was running out and I was able to screen the ball until Gertie got it and scored on turn 16.

The Goblins tried for a 1 turner but failed the catch.

Final Score:

Percy's Arty All Stars 2-1 Bristol Bedlam Boys

We're sitting second in the table with a game in hand and our next game is against the bottom of the table Skaven. Everything's coming up Percy?

Nice work on the TTM - I presume low numbers meant you didn't want to do the two turner?

Anyway, good work so far. Bottom of the table skaven can't be too hard, right? But skaven is a tough match up for Underworld, especially early on - a draw will be a good result.

I have all of one skill, block on a thrower and since a goblin died I've replaced it and bought one extra so I have s bench of two.

I think the next coach doesn't play much, a theme of tabletop players. Also people don't take underworld to tournaments except occasionally as stunties so nobody quite knows how to tackle them.

For the same reason the Slann worry me. I have no idea how to approach that game except for waiting for leap to fail.

Can you spectate FUMBBL? I'll be interested to hear how the Slann game goes.

Good luck against the Skaven!

You can spectate or watch replays. I think I posted a link to the team earlier, follow that and you should be able to find my matches.

Game 3 against Rolands Lads, a Skaven team coached by CarterCaine of the Double Skulls Podcast (tag line "We fuck up so you don't have to")

The All Stars kicked and the ball went high and deep (fnar). A gutter runner got the ball and run into a loose cage on their left flank. I decided to Underworld the hell out of things and ran a goblin into the cage to mark the ball carrier. I got the rest of the turn wrong though because I could have run another goblin in to blitz the ball free but never mind.

The Skaven push further down the left sideline but a failed dodge leaves the ball exposed. I block the runner down and the ball scatters off the pitch, flying back on to land deep in my half away from all my players. I get a Blitzer back to mark the most obvious pick up Skaven but fail a block with no reroll before marking the ball (because I'm dumb) allowing the Skaven to run in, retrieve the ball and score. They stalled for a turn but I was able to run enough players back to force the TD on turn 4.

1-0 to Rolands Lads

I decide to emulate what I've just seen and form a loose screen on the left. The Skaven set up a column defense so I switch to a full cage in the middle. I'm running out of time and not making much progress up the pitch. I go sideways again to try and find an opening and cage on the right. Attrition is taking it's toll and, whilst I've lost Goblins, CarterCaine has lost real players and can't cover all the angles. I blitz a gutter runner out of the way and score at the end of the half.

1-1 at Half Time

I try more of the same, caging on the left with my Skaven, tying players up with the Goblins. On turn 2 I can score or stall. To stall I need to dodge a lot of Goblins through tacklezones so I decide to score which needs a single GFI. Which fails. Obviously.

The ball is loose in the endzone and I can get to it. I dodge in through far too many dodges and fail the last one. It's alright though because the Rat Ogre manages to knock himself over making a block so I get another go. This time I just need to push a gutter runner away, pick up and make 1 GFI.

2-1 to Percy's All Stars

This time I get Perfect Defense and can line up my strength against the main Skaven running lines. Once again the Skaven screen up on the left and run the ball with a gutter runner. I stall the screen and they move to a full cage. I knock down the rear corner and sit in front of the rest of it. There's a downed runner near my players so I kick it with a Goblin twice but just get them sent off.

The Skaven break out of the side of their cage and attempt a very short pass to a lineman who drops it. I get players to it and manage to pick it up even. I cage in the middle of my half for a turn and then run forwards on turn 8 (not realising it was so late in the game), GFI to get closer to the endzone and out of range of the skaven, fail (obviously) and scatter the ball. The Skaven have a single lineman who can heroically dodge, run, pick up and pass for the draw. He fails the dodge. Obviously.

Final Score 2-1 to the All Stars.

This places me back at the top of the table but it won't last because I'm playing a frankly broken Pro-Elf team next time and they have a ST 4 Catcher.

I twitched out this game and the recorded footage is being uploaded and will be at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gya9IV3T6dQ soon.

Sounds like an exciting game!

Just use goblins to assist your blitzer and you'll take out that catcher no trouble ;)

The problem with that plan is all the other Elves :)

Looks like I'll be getting 160k inducement money so I'm thinking either Nobbla Blackwart or Skitter Stab-stab to deal with those pesky elves.

Mmmm elf violence.

Sounds like it's going to be a dodge fest too with all those (pesky) elves and (wonderful) goblins.

“So it’s agreed then? 160,000 gold pieces and you’ll play one game against them poncy elves?”
“Yeah, yeahboss. Sallgoodinnit?”
“Yeah, whatever.” Percy turned to leave and then turned back “And bring your knife right?”
“YeahyeahyeahBossHehhehhehheh!”
Percy lumbered off into the night. Skaven, you can’t trust them, you can’t even really understand them. But they’re quick, and them elves look well good so it’s nice to have an edge.

Game 4 in the PodBowl and it’s the two teams at the top of the table vying for supremacy. I got 160k in inducement money and being mostly a Cyanide player I thought I’d take a look at star players that aren’t in that version. Seems that Skitter Stab-stab is exactly 160k and as a stabbing gutter runner he’s ideally suited to getting rid of armour 7. I was tempted by Nobbla Blackwart but I decided the Skitter would be better all over as he’d be on the pitch longer and could do more than kill if needed.

Trumpkin won the toss and elected to receive. The elves shot down my right flank and I foolishly mentioned my two heads goblin so they didn’t quite go for the full side cage but the ball was well protected by the preening Elven linemen. Skitter went for the stab but didn’t achieve much so the rest of the team moved into defensive positions as best they could and the two heads goblin sauntered into the cage merrily. I couldn’t quite get a 2 man column by the sideline though and the Elves were able to punch Skitter out of the way and scored in turn 2.

1-0 to Quantity over Quality

The Elves kicked and I made a push up the left. Skitter ran forward with his stabbing knife of stabbing but once again failed to break armour. I failed the pickup first time but ran the ball forward on the second attempt and caged up. Elves being elves care not for poxy cages so they just waltzed in and took the ball carrier out. The ball scattered off the pitch and the throw in was a golden opportunity for the Elves. They collected it easily and ran it home.

2-0 to Quantity over Quality
Turn 8 and it’s time for the One turner. Skitter lines up on the LOS and knifes an elf off the pitch at last. I collect the ball with a thrower and GFI up to a goblin and then realise that this isn’t Cyanide and I should have declared the hand off at the start of the action. Never mind, I elect to pound some Elf instead and start thinning the ranks of pointy ears.
Half Time
The second half started with the Elves kicking off. I moved away from standard cages towards a large, diffuse swarm of rats and goblins being generally a nuisance. This paid off as the elves started to fail dodges. They also started to run out of elves. Some were injured (that St 4 Catcher is MNG, I expect money in the post Merrick) many more KO’d and refusing to get up and one dead. This is because Skitter is amazing. He got knocked down so many times but never failed an armour roll and KO’d loads of filthy elves.
That made it easy work to run the ball up the pitch and score.

2-1 to Quantity over Quality

I kicked to the Elves but there just weren’t enough of them left to really defend the ball carrier. I splattered my way in and got the ball free and scarpered off up the pitch with it. At the end of the drive there were 3 elves left on the pitch, none of the standing.

2-2

The Elves had a chance at a one turner but couldn’t make it work with the weight of numbers so much on my side.

Final score 2-2

In summary, Elves are squishier than Goblins and Rats. Percy was solid but unspectacular but he was happy to stand in the shadow of Skitter who was indestructible and lethal. The first half was Elf dominated and I was having a hard time working out how to deal with them but in the second, when the numbers were in my favour, it because easier to clag up their running lines and make them hurt. I’m happy with the draw as I was honestly expecting to get obliterated.

So the All Stars are still top of the table and still undefeated. Bring on the Slann!

After a long wait it's Podbowl!

In this game I played JBone from Double Skulls. Nice bloke, terrible team. His Slann have been the absolute worst.

We set up and I got 2+FAME. I chose to receive and the kickoff rolled a Pitch Invasion. Most of his team hit the dirt and I strolled through in easy style after catching the kick. I stalled for a turn but decided to score and try to turnover in 4 turns. The Slan came down my right side and bounced over my line. I caught them at the endzone and got the ball free but I failed a pass to a blitzer who could have scored so the half ended 1-0.

The second half started like the last drive with the Slann going down the left. My Two Heads Goblin sauntered through and blitzed the ball carrier but only got a push. A cage formed around the ball but I had numbers by this point and managed to swamp it with Skaven and Goblins. The ball eventually came loose and I got it away with a goblin. He got decked so I had to pick up again with a Blitzer. By this point it was clear that the win was mine so I paused only to get a Cas with Percy (he got Claw with the SPP!) and we clicked through the turns to the end of the match.

2-0 to the All Stars.
