I'll provisionally take that fight!

Let me know which of my teams you'd prefer to take on. I'd prefer some hairy beard on beard Dwarf action but that's just me :)

Rav... I would definitely like a "heavyweight" match with you later in August.... either my Wood Elves vs. your elfs, or Nurgle vs. Chaos Dwarves.... or both! I can do 14th August or later. :)

If we do an Elf off I want to buy and train up a replacement Blitzer. Would be fun though.

Great. I would be happy to play dwarf-dwarf; but would it perhaps be too easy for your highly trained chaos chaps against a rookie outfit? I don't mind either way.

OK... so Abom I'll field Team Shrek against your goblins if you don't mind? Goblin-Ogre matches are always entertaining. Plus I'm an ogre down :)

Rav - sure train a blitzer, whatever you want. We could even do cross-style matches if you want... ie CDwarves vs wood elves, and elves vs Nurgle. I think they would be interesting games but may lead to the end of the careers of some experienced elves...

I may well be a bit late and also I won't have my mic on. The nipper is still in the spare room so I'll be playing covertly.

Gandalf and I just played an Ogres-Gobbos match with possibly the most cinematic ending I've seen to date! :o

Well.... how to do this one justice. I'll try, but I'm sure to miss a ton of details but Abom will fill the gaps in.

A 5-ogre Team Shrek received against a goblin team. Then during turn 1 Gandalf's PC decided to reboot and Abom didn't Alt+F4, so he got lots of SPP's but I got my 6th ogre back. We go again!

Abom's team is 500k less so he takes Ripper, a bribe & a babe (I think) and opts to kick off. Boneheadmania strikes as most of the front line goes AWOL and my quarterback does too. The goblins take advantage by swarming into the opposition half. Quarterback then wakes up, picks the ball up in his own touchdown zone and lobs it (5+) to almost the halfway line where a snotling (a new one named Abom's Inner Snotling) catches it (4+) and runs into opposition territory, leaving the formations in a complete mess after 2 turns. The goblins hastily retreat and just manage to stop Abom's Inner Snotling scoring in the corner, and in the process injure him (Abom injures his Inner Snotling... what a masochist). The ball goes out and lands in the middle of Abom's half. The agility 4 ogre picks it up but is promptly mobbed by 4 goblins (ie, all the goblins left on the pitch at this point) and the ball is stripped. The half ends with Abom running the ball away, 4 injured snotlings and 3 KO'ed goblins.

The second half kicks off, the ball lands very close to the halfway line. Abom's first turn seems to be going fairly normally whereupon his mania with injuring snotlings overtook him (or a "mis-click" as he claims) and Ripper (agility 1) decides to leave the front line, run around some ogres in order to hit a hidden snotling. It doesn't work. The front line of 3 ogres respond by all rolling bonehead, but another ogres manages to get a tackle zone on the ball. After some hitting Abom tries a risk pickup - a 6 is rolled! He quickly moves the ball out of there and down the wing where another goblin is waiting. An ogre from the front line decides to actually do something now and breaks tackle to blitz the ball carrier on the wing. He is knocked over and the ogre picks up the loose ball (!). Abom can't hit the ball carrier so sets up a defensive screen. Meanwhile on the other wing mad stuff goes on. A bombadier throws a bomb, which is intercepted by Son Of Gandalf 2 - Even Snottier (SOG2ES for short - has the Catch skill). SOG2ES then throws it into the middle of the action - but it is caught by a goblin, who promptly fumbles it, killing the agility 4 ogre!!! Apoth turns it into a "miss next game" and thus means this team might still be played again. The ball carrier ogre hands it off to the AG3 ogre, who does an unusual sideways pass to SOG2ES who tries to scarper for the goal-line with almost no protection. Amazingly he almost makes it but is both downed just short of the line. With time and players running out - and no formations to speak of, the goblins get the ball upfield quickly, shrug off a blitz or two and look odds on to score... until Sure Feet fails a goblin. Team Shrek try and engineer a thrown snotling on turn 15 but alas a Break Tackle fails. Abom's turn 16 and he can't score so mainly tries to hit snotlings, including Thelonious who just had the ball and ends the turn on his backside.

So it's the last turn of the game, there seems like little to no chance of scoring, with the ball loose and no-one available to catch a pass. Or is there? Gandalf hit a couple of goblins out of habit, then as the clock hit 30 seconds Thelonious stood up, dodges, picks the ball up in a tackle zone, dodges, and did two GFI's and another dodge to leave himself around 9 squares from the touchdown zone. Shrek (The Original) then dodged out of a tackle zone, stood in front of Thelonious, and launched him towards the end zone. The throw was good! Thelonious flew through the air and out of all the squares he could've scattered to, he's going right into the end zone! But wait... the landing looks bad... but no! A reroll happens and it's good! One-nil win to Team Shrek in the most hollywood ending ever seen to a blood bowl match!

Fittingly the MVP's go to SOG2ES and the Bombadier :D

-------------------------------------

I'm exhausted from laughing after that game. It was entirely epic the whole way through. Abom a pleasure to play with as always. High-level craziness all round :D I'm glad we can still be friends because you didn't kill the agility 4 ogre ;)

Good effort Abom. That's the closest anyone has come to ridding the rest of us of this AG4 menace :-S

Sounds like a classic finale! Our game was less electric, though still fun. Rav took it 2-1, with the last play of the game (wow, both games came down to the final turn!!) with a centaur charging freely through the spacious dwarf half after many dwarves got marmaladed (he injured three, and killed The Pheasant of Uncertainty, as already lamented!).

So about my +agility ogres.... in the first game the guy who was sitting out was Shrek (The Original) who has AG3 & strong arm... but also now has -1 ST so I was really considering dropping him.
In the second game the AG4 guy did almost nothing, whereas Shrek (The Original) completed both passes that Team Shrek managed, picked the ball up when asked to, and did the game-winning snotling throw. So it felt like he had heard he was possibly up for the sack and set out to show the coach that he was still an invaluable member of the team :) Lesson learnt, he's not getting fired!

Also, I bought a new snotling and called it "Abom's inner snotling" and Abom bought a new goblin and called it "Gandalf The Green" - this was not co-ordinated at all so we were amused to find out what the other had done. :D

RL3 can you or Rav upload the game? Can we also have more details, I heard Morg was doing a lot? :)

The experienced Chaos Dwarves started the game with a lesson on Frenzy as a Dwarf Blitzer was harried off the pitch to an Av bust by Charles Darwin. That's what you get for standing 2 squares in.

I received and held the ball with a Hobgoblin whilst the Dwarves did some bashing which they all failed to make exciting (I don't know if it was the case but it felt like RL had better overall block dice with me rolling a lot of Both Downs, irrelevant because I got the injuries and RL didn't). I was able to force a channel up the mid right of the pitch and handed off to a Chaos Dwarf who needed SPPs to level up. THen Morg happened. After thumping Darwin Morg surged over to the ball and got stuck in. A couple of turns were lost to Blocking Morg down only for him to pop right up again until finally he got surfed by a Bull and a pair of hobgoblins. Walter Alvarez strolled across the line in Turn 8 after luckily being able to pick up the ball.

In the Second Half it was all about Morg again. Back from his depitching he was ready to take some names. The Dwarves started solidly with a cage on the far left of the pitch. I had plans to break into it with my St 5 Break Tackle Bull but I couldn't get him free and Cyanide always break tackles on the first dodge no matter what. Happily a Troll SLayer learnt Lesson 2 about Frenzy the hard way. Namely, think about how many dice the second block will be. He pushed a Bull back and then fell over. The bull charged into the open corner of the cage and knocked over the ball carrier. THe ball scattered back and RL audaciously picked up and passed with an Ag2 Blocker, lobbing the ball to Morg.

That came as quite a surprise... I was able to track back a bit to slow Morg down but not stop him. In the end a valiant 2D uphill block was avoided because the HobGob on question failed a GFI.

1-1 with 2 turns to go.

The Turn Of Death.

I bashed and I bashed right. Armour broke and Pheasants died. It was a horrible turn for RL and I do feel sorry because it's sort of broken the team. Anyway, the weather had turned to rain which would have made my day really hard had the ball not landed off the pitch. I gave it to the +mv Bull and he legged it. The problem with the +Mv Bull is that he outpaces the rest of the team so I had to do too many naked GFIs to mark the key defenders (Morg mostly). But luckily I made them and Morg had to dodge to get a blitz on the ball which he failed. In the final turn I decided not to risk any blocks (partly for fear of a turnover, partly to not kill any more Dwarves) and lumbered over the line for a 2-1 win.

It was a fun game for me and RL played solidly. The caging was good but the Chaos Dwarves are well equipped to smash into almost any cage and get at the ball. Morg was a star though and made it a very close game - either of my TDs could have been ruined by him and he scored against me with relative ease.

Caging Advice - Cages shouldn't make contact with the other team unless you have a clear strength and guard advantage. If the opposition can block a corner and then blitz the ball you're in trouble. You also have to be careful when pushing players back from the cage - it was the Trollslayer frenzying out of position that killed the Dwarf attack.

Good write-up! Morg made it a close game. Don't feel bad about injuring the team, that's just how it goes against your Chorfs.

With a cage, how are you supposed to get it to move forwards? Particularly if you have 0 guard, and are all ST3? The trollslayer was basically trying to make some kind of room... I didn't really know what else to try. I did think about the risk, but seemed to lack options - much like the long chuck a turn later, which came off. It seemed to me that doing something was better than standing still and getting pummeled. Any ideas much appreciated, as this keeps happening!

(I have played a few dwarf games against the computer recently. Mostly against a Khorne team. The computer strategy can be a bit odd... such a trying to use the Khorne big guy as a wide receiver, going long. I'm not sure that the Khorne team even had the ball. Its a different experience to playing against people for sure.)
