Re: Post season-9 friendlies
I want to throw some more bombs, but don't mind sitting out. I say you two play!
It's a shame we don't have a 4th musketeer to join us for these Sunday games.

Re: Post season-9 friendlies
I'll try to negotiate some game time in the next couple of weeks. I've got one last PodBowl game to get out of the way and then I'm a bit freer.
Re: Post season-9 friendlies
Glad to hear it Rav.
Abom it really was your turn last week (as we had just done me vs RL3 and you vs. RL3) but as you turned it down, RL3 and I played.
**************************
RL3 said it was my turn to decide the matchup, so we played Nurgle (as I wanted to play Nurgle) vs Amazon (as their TV was close-ish... 220k). This matchup always has a bit of extra spice, as one of It's A Sign's star players is the Agility 5 rotter, Trudy Lies, who in a past life was an amzaon. Several common themes from our games these last few months emerged yet again...
* Gandalf injured someone on turn 1
* A distinct lack of KO's (mostly injuries or stuns)
* Fun!
Gandalf received and after the obligatory turn 1 injury didn't really do much numerically. A lot of time was spent not knocking over blodgers. A fireball came in and the ball fell loose, but the Amazons couldn't recover it. Trudy Lies picked the ball up but fumbled the throw, partly thanks to the bright sunshine at the match. This time the Amazons swooped and Gandalf didn't have a plan B for stopping the touchdown, so it was 1-0. I had 2 turns left to score but Nuffle was not with me on this occasion.
Second half and the amazons received. some punching on the front line didn't amount to much and the amazons made a hole down the wing. I managed a block on the ball carrier but it was no good, they sauntered through to make it 2-0. I didn't really think I had time to score twice so set about hitting people and trying to score once. At this stage I started to inflict a few more injuries and I made a small hole (still required a dodge) but I got a couple of people through. The ball carrier got knocked down and so I had 2 turns left to score. Via a confusing array of dice rolls, some fortunate rolls and pass into the endzone in the dying seconds of the turn I managed to engineer a touchdown in 1 turn. I felt quite pleased with myself
One turn left; I kicked short. RL3 picked it up and tried to pass but the ball bobbled and bounced out over the sidelines and onto his side of the pitch. Trudy Lies then dodges, 2xGFI and picked the ball up and successfully passed the ball for another SPP. So the game definitely ended on a high for me despite losing 2-1.
I think we both enjoyed the game. Congratulations on your victory, you deserved it, sorry about the dead player (apothecaried from dead to dead) but at least your ST4 lady lives (despite my best efforts, grr!). I think the 'Zons are missing 3 or 4 players from their next match now whilst I have a Warrior back so I don't think these two will be playing each other as their next matchup as the TV difference has gone from 220k to over 600k...
Also this game I rolled an absurd amount of red skull/pushes. This isn't me complaining about the dice - I'm aware over 2 thirds of 2d blocks against blodgers won't result in a knockdowns (unless with Tackle... of which I had 1). It was just amusing/bizarre that out of all the possible ways to fail, this came up again and again. RL3 actually noticed it before I did and it just got to the point where I was excited to fail a block in a different way
Another amusing moment was when RL3 failed a hand-off but the ball bounced back into the original player's hands; and thus it was not a turnover. A rare and initially confusing occurrence.

I'll be unavail this Sunday. Going to a music thing... unless the nearby hurricane cancels it! Hopefully no major power outtages down here in Southern Florida, but northern Florida looks pretty screwed.
Re: Post season-9 friendlies
Change of plans. Please consider me unavailable for tomorrow (and the Sunday after as originally stated). Maybe I'll play on the 23rd. Though I have other posts to make in this forum before then.

I am available. But it definitely isn't my turn for a match-up! If anyone else wants to play, they should take priority.

Re: Post season-9 friendlies
RL3 did a game of his amazons vs my usual gobbos.
Gobbos receive and meander forward, using their trolls and fanatic to clear a path. Solid paths aren't formed but... Mighty Blow, Tackle, and some rerolls used on the Fanatic to make him really put the pain on leads to about 3 injured 'zons and a KO'd one. With RL3 only having 12 players due to having injuries form his last bout against Gandalf, this was a very successful half. The lack of players would go on to hurt the amazon later in the game.
The gobbos finally clear a path with the numbers advantage and a few good blocks. 1-0 to the gobbos
'zons have about 2-3 turns to score, altho RL3 thinks it's only 1-2. He makes a quick running play hoping his badass catchers (one of which is STR4) can just run past my little gobbos. He didn't notice I had a Strip Ball gobbo tho. 2-3 little green ones surround his Catcher and the ball is knocked loose... and with it, any chance of scoring this half.
half-time
Angry at not having scored, RL3 again goes for a quick running play, hoping to score in a turn or 2. I call him reckless and we quibble a bit about safe vs crazy play. Then I tell him I'm reckless too and I look forward to throwing some bombs! I go to move my Strip Ball goblin (which he had again forgotten I had... making it about the 6th time in our games
) and do a replay of what happened a turn or 2 ago. Unfortunately my calling their coach reckless inspired my gobbos to be too confident and he failed the *one* dodge he had to make (double skulls) Goodbye, bombardier! ;_; 1-1 tie game!
Gobbos receive as I enter a fit of depression and reconsider my coaching career over not having thrown a single bomb. RL3 plays it safe as the gobbos invite him to play a bashing game, hoping the #s advantage can be turned into an even greater #s advantage and lead to an easy score on the final turn or two.
'zons accept the bashfest clown fiesta invitation, and it's blob on blob warfare against the loose gobbo cages for a few turns! RL3 keeps keep a STR4 catcher as a safety, and in safety as well out of range of my trolls, scared of her death. Makes sense.
But gobbos roll like crap. All this bashing but it's just a bunch of patty cake, a bunch of schoolyard pushing and shoving, no real blood. Everyone's in the mix and the ball flies into another gobbo's hand!
With the gobbo positioning out of sync, he brings in his queen, his safety into the bashfest in so the pieces could fall.
I spend most of my turn panicking as that turn out of like 4-5 blocks, no defender downs were rolled. My gobbos would lose possession and the game! But with the 'zon STR 4 catcher no longer really playing safety... With 10 seconds left on the clock, I go with the backup to my backup plan: have the star goblin holding the ball exploit sprint, stunty, and sure feet. 3-4 dodges and 2 GFIs later, as well as another gobbo backing him up via 3 his own dodges and 2 GFIs later... my star goblin, Razor, had escaped!

Despite having low armor, Razor is one of the few semi-pros on the Gobbo team, occasionally displaying flashes of Skaven-like speed.
RL3 now panicks himself and sees only 1 way of hitting the guy: he's gonna have to do 2-3 dodges of his own and hope he rolls well. It happens!
However, Razor was so close to scoring already and the ball bounces away from the Amazon tackler. So he just stumbles forward 2-3 squares, picks up the ball and scores. 2-1 for the gobbos, leaving the amazons only 1 turn to score.
A pitch invasion erases any chance of another team scoring on the final turn. Final score: 2-1 to the goblins Good game!
============
Green Thoughts: I had a lot of fun playing with 4 rerolls. It's a super bloated team but I think 4 rerolls over 3 fits my greedy playstyle of using bombardiers, using GFI on the fanatic, throwing goblins, etc.

Re: Post season-9 friendlies
Yet another close and amusing game. The second half degenerated into a single massive scrum, involving every player on the pitch, which was fun to watch :-D
Thanks for the game Abom!
(And yes, WG, one of the Red Lion front line was injured in turn one as is now traditional.)
