We are an Allegiance squadron dammit, we should rule the sky! As a joystick pilot I find the game's flying controls absolutely horrible, but maybe some mouse jockey like Solarflux, Phantom or Grav could figure out how to fly the damn things properly and pass it on to us mortals?

Re: We need pilots who can figure out the flight controls.
haha I tried one last night before I met up with you guys.
Managed to take off and crash the thing in short order :-)

I can manage any ship fairly good with a mouse. That means, I can lift off, fly wherever I want, then even land and stuff
. I'm pretty much useless in dogfights though, but that needs training.
Which part of the flight are you having trouble with, Adept? Maybe I can help ^^.

Re: We need pilots who can figure out the flight controls.
I can do all you list above. I've even shot down a lumbering gunship... but I find situational awareness in the air is even worse than on the ground. The default systems on the fighter are horrible. There is no radar, no missiles... nothing. I'm useless in a dogfight vs. a Scythe.

Re: We need pilots who can figure out the flight controls.
Yeah that's right, the HUD is nowhere near Alleg. I guess you actually depend on other people and kind of "gut feeling" in order to dogfight properly, kind of like WWII planes (radar? what's that technology of the future?) Maybe if you get 2 or so other pilots you get a nice squad flying and can help each other with the situational awareness? Also it'll be incredibly awesome "HE'S IN MY TAIL! HELP ME! I CAN'T GET RID OF IT!" and such stuff
.
Btw, there ARE missiles, but you need to cert for them
. Default is really crappy, but that's done on purpose, they don't want any noob jumping on a ship and flying in circles. The good thing is, you can get your certs playing some other stuff and then use them on the ship.
Also, I don't know if they removed it or not, but there's a cert that lowers the cooldown on the timer there is to get a new ship. You may like to cert up in that if you plan on flying a lot, so you don't have to wait 20 minutes to get your new ship ^^.

Re: We need pilots who can figure out the flight controls.
First level of cooldown reduction is just one cert point. I recommend them for everyone

Re: We need pilots who can figure out the flight controls.
Used to pilot with joystick, but that was just clumsy. Impossible to aim properly. Currently practising mouse and that works a lot better. I am now a decent dogfighter and with my air-to-ground dumbfire missiles I am a menace to infantry and tanks.
Re: We need pilots who can figure out the flight controls.
Cool, so we have at least one pilot.
Do you reverse the vertical controls for flying Flux, and do you use a look-up button to pull your nose up for turns and loops?

Guess who just watched Top Gun for the first time ever? I enjoy flying but unlike Alleg, this game really relies on a wingman system. Looking forward to getting in game with you lot this week - I've been away for a little while
Perhaps we can try some piloting?

I'd like that Identity. I'm giving up on the joystick for the time being, as the implementation is just too bad to use.

Re: We need pilots who can figure out the flight controls.
Kinda like my joystick setup, but takes forever to get certs. If I am going to have to use SC on 2 servers...

Re: We need pilots who can figure out the flight controls.
It actually felt better due to playing so late at night, less burden on the CPU. Cat is FIZbacca.

Re: We need pilots who can figure out the flight controls.
Do people use reversed vertical with the mouse flying or not? As in, do you pull back to bring the nose up?

I do. I also fly like that in Alleg (actually I've played like that in every sim since I played Freespace when I was
