Wizards are on hiatus, shall we play Doom?

Postby xJammer » Thu Dec 12, 2013 10:42 am

Quite enjoyed the Wizards, but as Drakon now going MIA, I suggest we play something I used to play in high school >.> It does not have any particular written book for it, and majorly depends on the GM to decide on  everything, but I am fairly confident I can pull it off for a while :P.

Basically the game is based in labyrinth where you are to struggle through to the exit only to be put into the next one. You can think of it as a turn-based Doom with dice rolls and more flexibility with your imagination (i.e. hiding behind something, actual interaction with objects, etc). There is not as much RP in the game as there was in Wizards, majority of the RP would come from you guys actually collectively deciding on taking an action as a group to deal with whatever obstacle is in your way. This does however require everyone to wait for all replies (obviously giving control to someone else works). In any case, Id love to get an idea about the number of people who are wanting to play, and then I'll need about a week to set it up so we can start :).

Uggh... I got to China and I realised the internet here is so piss-poor that even loading forums becomes difficult :/. I should be back in about a week, majority of the stuff is ready already anyway, so yeah.. sorry for the delay :/

I am a dew eyed newb and all but I'll give it a try.  If my being so green becomes an issue than I would gladly step out again.  Honestly you gents decided.

Xey you are visiting China on business, pleasure, family?  You are welcome to send a pm so as not to clutter up the thread with MrChaos like well Chaos
Disclaimer: I have commited to watching every episode of Doctor Who starting at the beginning. Please feel free to ccomment alongmy journey but please no spoilers of any kind and htis includes discussions of anything forward of where I am at that time. No writer X vs writer Z comparisons, no vague references to things to come, no wink nudge nudges even please. The request is if you are in doubt about if I have seen it yet than do not mention it please. Spoliers are really spolers for me and I hate to know what is about to happen. I will faithfully update where in the series I am and the goal is to watch the entire series before the New Year. *gulp* Oh boy About twenty hours a week is what a quick look online is telling me and quite alot of the dear Doctor no matter how much I may come to love the series. Man I hope I end up liking the darn thing... oh boy

Will be starting this very soon (1-2 days). Initial specs are prepared, and I did forget to mention, but the game will have a spreadsheet aspect to it if thats ok with everyone >.> . (i.e. weapons will have stats, durability, cost, damage, damage types, ammo types, etc.) I just need to find a good and comfortable way to draw the map on forums :/.

Lets try a quick example with this :
http://www.twiddla.com/1444867

The black borders are not passable ("tall wall")
Blue circles are passable objects that you can also take cover by (in this case these are explosive barrels, no armour, 150 health, explode dealing 50 damage in 3x3 square with sqrt falloff, i.e. 50 damage to center, 7 damage to 3x3 ring around it, all damage is always rounded per batch)

The red squares are enemies. They somewhat resemble a soldier, but from this distance its hard to say, you are also not sure what they are carrying (hard to tell at this distance). You know that there are no friendlies in this area. Normally you would also see which way these guy are looking at, but for now assume it doesn't matter.

You are a rookie, having 100 Time units (TU). Walking takes 20 TU per square, 28 TU for diagonal move, turning takes 5 TU per 45 degrees. You also have 100 health.

You have a choice of weapons :
(Damage; Range; Accuracy; Time to Fire; Time to Reload; Clip Size)
Fist : D 10; R 1; A 90; TF 50; TR 0; CS inf;
Pistol : D 20; R 3; A 30; TF 25; TR 100; CS 12 (comes with 3 clips of ammo)
Crude Shotgun : D 30/R; R 2; A R*30; TF 50; TR 50; CS 1 (comes with 12 rounds)
Crossbow : D 25; R 3; A 40; TF 50; TR 50; CS 1 (comes with 20 bolts)

Choose one weapon and lets give it a go. (We will start tomorrow, for now just write up your names on the whiteboard and choose a colour for yourself).

This is just a test run, I want to make sure that the whiteboard works, people will understand the mechanics, and its not too tedious for a forum game ^^. (its a lot more complex than wizards though :/)

P.S. By playing test version, you do not have to play the full game afterwards, this is both for me to adjust the game to fit forums, and for you to find out whether you want to play it :P

P.P.S. This game is not just about randomly moving around, once the real things starts, we will get background stories, the background story for the world, and we will all have to RP our way through the tunnels :P

We have to save the image, adjust it in paint, then upload it? Do we determine our own starting location or do you? I am not sure how the shotgun works. It gains accuracy per range? So a 2 range shot provides 2*30 = 60 accuracy?

You dont have to do anything but draw your action on the whiteboard (first link in the post above) (I will save it once everyone makes their moves, i.e. once the turn ends). If you are firing and require a confirmation of your result, draw partial movement and then post that you are firing, if you do not require update on the result, post full movement and denote from which position you are firing.

Shotgun has damage that falls off at distance, but accuracy increases (as the cone spreads, its easier to hit, but less damage is dealt with it).

Your starting position is the blue square. Please note that R 1 for weapons, means 1 square away.

In full game, there would be a few more formulas governing overall damage falloff and accuracy falloff at distance, but nothing to be concerned with here atm.

So do we move in the squares or over the lines that form the square? Answer: in the squares.

Until we have more background, my character is called Mr. Angelheart.
