No worries, now we need pics of your setup so we can be envious of you laugh at how geeky you are.

So you going to wait till the end of the month for Premium Beta, or are you going to get some stick time in on Alpha 1.1?

Edit: I'm not sure which way the strike through should go. Am definitely envious.

Yes. Perhaps we need a new thread: Desks under the monitor.

It's going to take me at least that long to clear up my desk too.

Tried Elite for the 1st time. Full CH HOTAS setup. I have _no_ idea what I'm doing with the pedals  ;D

Nevertheless after managing to set up the controls (and remembering about half of them) I played through the single player scenarios to Predator & Prey. There I wasn't stealthy enough, and the Cobra mk 3 got involved. I tried to lose it using silent running, didn't manage to do it, was wondering why my shields weren't coming back up (still heat vents closed accidentally), tried to fight him, then run when I realised my 200% heat level and no shields condition and ran smack into an asteroid.

The Flight model is _gorgeous_  <3

PS. As it happens, do the fairydust and magic I now have Alpha access to the game, so the scenario balance may be a little different than what you're expereincing id3nt1ty. The Federal fighters definitely didn't pop as realiably and easily with missiles as I remember seeing from early Alpha footage, so taking down that flight turned into a really exciting 4 vs 1 furball. Still, all's well that ends with an intact canopy right?

It took me a while to realise you can't run indefinitely Buttoned Up. What worked really well for me was just turning off shields, not using the lazor and turning FA off. Your heat signature stays low enough that the sidewinder doesn't pick up on your shenanigans, and you can turn drives off too to really get frosty. That way you don't run out of heat sinks (of which you have three I think).

Have you tried much FA off?

I tend to struggle with more that one enemy at the moment when I fly FA off, but I think it's just my situational awareness. But, practise make perfect!

I experimented with FA off quite a bit when just tooling around in the asteroid field. It's great for using just like vector lock in Allegiance. I pretty much forgot about it in the later scenarios, except I did kick up some speed, turn FA-off and then just glide forward with silent running. I was still building up some heat since I didn't turn the engine off completely, but it felt pretty darn efficient.
