(What does it mean if I need a minimum crew of 2? How do I recruit someone?)

(Also, do I get to buy Armor, Weapons and utility with the remaining cash or do I have to wait till I reach some sort of "market"? How does mounting armor work, is there an assigned type of armor for each ship? How do the utility mounts under "weapons" work? They transform a weapon slot into a utility slot?)

Generic crew is 500 to hire and 100 per turn after.

Armor, weapons, etc are all available. Just ask for what you want. I'll be able to tell you if it is available and what price they are when I get home.

As far as mounting things - size is all that matters. A Small armor slot can fit any Small armor. And yes, that is exactly how the utility mounts under weapons work

I'll take

Globan Star Hound with Mikal Type A Propulsion Unit and Paramount Budget II Sensors: 149,000
Double L-18 Lasers: 8,000
Halo Armor: 1,000
Small Power Bank: 1,000
Hauler Cargo Storage: 2,500

Total: 161,500

Remaining: 13,500

Also, what's the advantage of having more crew members on board?

Base stats:
Ship: Star Hound
Size: 1
Propulsion: M (I'm using a S: Type A though)
Armor: S
Sensors: S
Utilities: 2
Weapons: 2 (Double L-18 Lasers, 2 damage, 80% accuracy per turn
Speed: 8 (7 Base, +1 from Type A prop)
Signature: 95 (100 base, -5 Halo Armor)
Power: 20 base, +
Min Crew: 1  (5 Max)
Officers: 3
Cargo: 15 (10 base, +5 Cargo Hauler)

In Terasie, the prices are as listed:
L-18 Laser (2 Available): 4,500
Halo Armor (2 Available): 1,300
Small Power Bank (5 Available): 2,100
Hauler Cargo Storage (3 Available): 2,800

Total cost of all of your items is 164,200 (+2,700 from "Base" price). You would have 10,800 remaining. Is this still acceptable?

[member=20]notjarvis[/member] Your shopping list! As mentioned to the others, ask about components and I'll give you a price.
[spoiler=Stormlord available ships]Globan Star Hound with Martin Tracker Propulsion and Paramount Budget I Sensors: 155,000
Martin Diocles with Globan Hawk Propulsion and Cobra Aphid Active Sensors (Min Crew: 2): 170,000
Mikal Type III with Type A Propulsion, Canvas Armor, and Cobra Cricket Passive Sensors: 93,500
Mikal Type III with Type B Propulsion and Paramount Budget I Sensors: 96,000[/spoiler]

Mikal Type III with Type A Propulsion, Canvas Armor, and Cobra Cricket Passive Sensors: 93,500

Light Cloak (35,000)
Autocannon  (3000) (do I have to buy ammo now or does it start fully stocked)?

It says it can support 1 Crewmember - does that include my character? If not I'll hire a chap.

Your character is indeed one of the crewmembers. And you're in luck, because Stormlord is Viper's home system, so prices are at list price.

Looks like you end up with 43,500 credits left over.

Can I upgrade the propulsion?
How much would it cost to have a Mikal Type B (normally 16,800), or a Komodo Alpha (21000) or Globan Falcon (19000)?

And how much for Halo Armour? To reduce my sig that bit more.

Tempted to soup it up a bit.... Want a fast-ish, low sig, small transport...

Type B would run you 17,400.
Komodo Alpha would be 21,800.
The Globan Falcon is not available.
Halo Armor would cost 1,200

Name: Lieutenant Pharlon Spinx

Start System: Ido

Skills: Haggle I, Engineer II & Tape Cutter II

Hailing from the rather cold, but otherwise unremarkable planet of Simia Orichalcae, Pharlon Spinx has spent most of the last few decades travelling the space ways in search the great riches among the stars. “This time next cycle, we will be millionaires he keeps telling his crew, but no one seems quite so sure anymore. Having spent many years building up his interplanetary haulage company from modest beginnings, having started out with nothing but a shuttle with a shipping container welded to the side, Spinx and Crew Intergalactic traders have been steadily building up both in resources and reputation, working on bigger cargoes and slowly expanding towards the core worlds.
Just a few years ago, success finally seemed to be smiling on Spinx and his motley crew. With tensions building up in the cores systems, just a few months after the Sol defence fleet found its logistics budget cut many independent contractors were brought in to fill the gap in transporting both manpower and equipment on behalf of the Core Worlds Defence fleet. Under the orders of Admiral Sir Thomas Byam Martin the Third, Pharlon and crew were recruited into the newly created 8th Fleet, Independent logistics wing, Pharlon was given the rank of Lieutenant, the ship was upgraded and that annoying rattle in the ventilation system finally fixed. In celebration, the ship was finally named as the Benjamin F. Pierce in honour of a great historical figure, or so the captain claims.
With the ship and crew invigorated with new parts and purpose, respectively, all seemed to be going well for Lt Spinx and he settled into the glamorous life of transporting thousands of frozen, ready to eat military grade meals across space. After a few years of efficiently delivering every shipment on time and in perfect condition, the crew of the Benjamin F. Pierce finally caught the attention of high command and were commissioned to run a special job on behalf of the Grand Admiral himself. A fantastic opportunity not to be missed, captain and crew jumped at the chance.
This, however, brings us to the present day. The crew speak little about what happened next and Lt Spinx, even less. Suffice to say the “Jovian Incident brings our crew to their present situation and further research yields little information beyond some vague reference to the Grand Admiral of the Fleet, his flagship and 100,000 Metric tons of dehydrated strawberry pudding. After this unfortunate affair, Lt Spinx and crew were forced to flee the Core World systems and set course to be as far from Earth as possible, severing all long range communications before any rank or codes could be revoked.
Arriving in the rather unimaginatively named “Twelve Systems sector of space with their own ship and some freshly forged licenses, permits and paperwork, the Benjamin F. Pierce and her intrepid crew are ready to make a fresh start and build up again from new beginnings.
With a new feeling of hope filling the air of the bridge like an intoxicating fragrance, Lt Spinx orders a course set for Ido. “I have a good feeling about this, Lads! This time next cycle, we will be millionaires.

Writing a small novel?

You have the same list of ships as [member=16]id3nt1ty[/member] (who still needs to purchase his!)

[member=7]Raveen[/member] still needs to post as well. I'll be starting on Monday. If you are slow, well, you're slow!
