I have no problem running cool and avoiding detection while flying 500 meters from him. The problem lies in actually killing the thing. I start shooting, take off some shield.. Then it either turns to finish me or runs and recharges.

Edit: apparantly I tried to kill the cobra. Which I should not.

Yes. If you can manage the stealth mechanics, just pick off the federal short range fighters.

Adept

Let me know when I can go trundle off to do my "stuff" and the "stuff" will stick.  I got a goal and a plan which like just about everything else related to this game is probably my misconceptions and plan ignorance rearing its ugly head.

(I want to go colonize a particular star (system) that I named and is in the "Star Registrary" some years ago (Im pretty sure it has no validity as an official name and all just I want to do it) which hopefully will require some herculean (or not) efforts to make it a go.  *shrug*

I just don't have the time to be a proper ass kicking mofo pilot right now and frankly Im not sure I even want the whole pleasure of interacting with the mentality of those players were anything goes because"Im a pirate" but would like some casual (there I said it) game play with people I don't want to punch in the face in RL ;)
Disclaimer: I have commited to watching every episode of Doctor Who starting at the beginning. Please feel free to ccomment alongmy journey but please no spoilers of any kind and htis includes discussions of anything forward of where I am at that time. No writer X vs writer Z comparisons, no vague references to things to come, no wink nudge nudges even please. The request is if you are in doubt about if I have seen it yet than do not mention it please. Spoliers are really spolers for me and I hate to know what is about to happen. I will faithfully update where in the series I am and the goal is to watch the entire series before the New Year. *gulp* Oh boy About twenty hours a week is what a quick look online is telling me and quite alot of the dear Doctor no matter how much I may come to love the series. Man I hope I end up liking the darn thing... oh boy

Tip for all traders. I found a really nice trade between two systems:

Buy max fish in I-booting, sell in Aulin.. buy max terrain enrichers if you have more than 64k already.. else buy as much agro med as you can. Then sell in i-booting.

With my hauler (16 cargo) I can make about 45k per hour this way once I get over 64k (should take 3 more trips of agro meds to reach 64k though).

I love the ship. In my understanding of the Elite military paradigm, the Cobra is an example of a torpedo boat.

The ship rolls awesomely well, but compared to the sidey or the eagle, is very sluggish in any other axis. It's really fast (320 cruise speed, boosts up to 400), but has weak translational thrusters and especially weak retros. You need to give it space to slow down.

2 x class 4 hard points as the main armament, 2 x 2 on the underside at the wingtips (good for missiles or small gimbaled guns). Good enough weapon cooling to operate one class 3 gimbaled beam laser for significant amounts of time. Strong shielding, at least in Alpha & Premium Beta, but I expect it will die quite easily to a viper... but then with the weak shields of the viper, the reverse is also true.

It's gonna be the ship I keep after launch, I suspect  8)

Sounds good. I read the Viper is suffering from high heat, limited jump range when armed and very hard to make money with. I might get it when I have a large enough bank account to manage without income (300k+ or so).

I'll have to admit.... Trading is mind-numbingly boring and tedious to me. I have it down and there's pretty much no effort to it. I did hace a hand at some combat missions but i went with a hauler for more money making since trading is pretty much the only way to make money. Combat is break even at best.

Beta 2.0 is hopefully coming soon. I'd love to see mining, and fixed instancing so we can see each other again without having to form a private group.

Damnit, got distracted while moving out of the station resulting in a crash of my ship and its 64k worth of cargo load. Have to start from 40k again :( Three hours wasted.

I'm personally conflicted. I have 114k and the Cobra. The Lakon type 6 costs ~200k.

I feel that as a good beta tester I should stick with the Cobra for a while, equip it with the re-balanced gimbaled weapons, and try out the new fixed cannons.

On the other hand, I'd really like to get to try an Anaconda during the Beta.
