So, Idan won the toss and decided to kick - probably probably a good idea in the Pouring Rain. My thrower/ball carried failed to catch the ball, but managed to pick it up during the first turn. I don't remember much of my drive, other than using the +ST Blitzer to punch a hole through one flank, whilst the rest of the team ran a loose cage around the ball carrier. It took six turns to score, leaving two turns for Idan to try an equalize. Time for some Elf-ball. So, the Elf-ball Defence consisted of three line women spread across the line of scrimmage, and then two diamonds of the remaining four positionals about 6 squares back - one on each flank. I only needed to hold him back for two turns, so the plan was to see where each of his three(!) catchers went and then blitz/mark them as much as I could.
Idan's star catcher decided to see how well he would do against my +ST Blizter on the right, one catcher went for the middle and the other went left. With the support of a catcher to make sure the elf couldn't dodge away from the side line, the +ST Blitzer (I really should try and learn their names) got a lovely two-dice blitz and the catcher went down. Hard. Initially it looked like he was Dead, but a quick check-up from the eleven apothecary discovered that he had actually just broken his shoulder blade. That left six Amazons to mark the remaining two catchers and no other elves within range of the end zone.
The second half started with a similar Elf-ball Defense. I managed to kick the ball deep into Idan's half so it took him a couple of turns to bring the ball forward. By that time he had enough players in my half to start causing trouble. With an initial dash down my right flank, Idan switched sides to push down the left. I managed to blitz the ball carrier free, but wasted a re-roll on a Both Down on a player with wrestle. I then failed to pick up the ball and Idan scored in his next turn.
After Idan's touchdown I have three turns to score so I decided to attack down the right flank. Idan used the classic Double Columns defence but I made good use of the +ST Blodging Blitzer to force him back. By turn 16 I was one GFI away from a touchdown, but my ball carrier would have had to make a few dodges. I managed to get two die blocks on all the marking Elves to remove their tackle zones from my ball carrier. All that was left was for my thrower to make one 3+ dodge and a GFI (I had no re-rolls at this point) and the Amazons would win! So the thrower starts running, dodges around the only elf able to defend and runs for the touchdown... GOES FOR IT! Aaaaand ... rolls a one.
Thanks for a great game Idan!
