RT BBL S5 - Final Week - 10th May

Postby Raveen » Fri Feb 13, 2015 1:51 pm

Welcome sports fans to the opening weekend of the fifth season of the Rolling Thunder Blood Bowl League!

That's right, Jim, and we'll be here to take you through the action once again.

So, Bob, let's take a look at the teams.

First up we have the returning Necromantic team, Fables! This team of 'fabulous' undead players are RTBBL veterans and will be looking to improve on their performance last year.

Also returning are the Pinewood Carrions who have progressed from a team of bumbling incompetents to a team of frighteningly brutal incompetents.

A new team to the RTBBL are the Cheeseophosers who are managed by former league winner Lawastooshort. This Vampire team has had an early set back when one of their rookie Vampires was killed blocking a goblin in a pre-season game.

The Sons of the Silver Sword have journeyed to the RTBBL from the semi-mythical continent of Ulthuan. It'll be interesting to see how much they're willing to get their hands dirty playing with the typical riff raff you find in the RTBBL.

Another returning Coach with a new team is Daigoro who has been tempted out of retirement by Percy the Troll. Percy is captaining a new goblin franchise Percy's Persistent Plan and has masterminded a number of new tactics for the team.

Back from a year's break are Team Shrek a famously brutal team of Ogres and Snotlings. We hope that the survival rate of Snotlings this year is substantially lower than in previous seasons.

Also returning after a brea are the investigative Lizardmen, Saur'd of Justice. It seems that once again a case has lured them out of the Lustrian jungle.

Astrogranite Apocalypse were one of the stand out teams from the earliest stages of the RTBBL. Back in those days there was no structure, no prize and a lot of bloodshed so these Chaos boys should be well suited to modern Blood Bowl.

Lastly, and vertically leastly, are the Brewers Brawlers. Masters of the dwarven passing game they'll be looking to qualify for this year's Receivers cup.

YES! First official post about the season and already a grudge match!

Happy to see the two bashiest teams play each other first - here's hoping you severely damage each other so you can leave damaging the Cheeseosophers to me.

Not sure what I think about facing lizards first – I’ve had mixed experiences against them but OH THAT GIVES ME AN IDEA – SOME PREDICTIONS.

I echo the sentiments of instant an instant Grudging. I look forward to that.

Head start for The Ladz! Triple P! Da 'Shrooms!

I say head start... here's hoping for a catastrophic weekend of death, crippling all those big 'orrible cheating gits who don't know how to play the beautiful game properly to give (instant fan favourites, I may add) Percy's Ladz the best chance to actually make it to the end of the season with an actual team.

Percy will be watching on intently with his spreadsheet and playbook.

You have been warned.

LEEEEETS PLAY BLOODBOWL!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. I want to change my signature... but can't remember how... help?

Season 5 starts with a bang. And a crunch. And a whimper!

We kicked and we were lucky that the Chaos got confused on their way onto the pitch and set themselves up all wrong. A Minotaur quarterback is never going to work well (no matter what the AI thinks). Wyld gather the ball at the third time of trying, a move that cost him a KO'd beastman, and caged up at midpitch.

I had run a Tomb Guardian into the melee who was subsequently on the ground but still in the action. I decided to fire a wizard at the cage anyway and got lucky, knocking over 3 Chaos players and stunning at least 1. The ball bounced free and I covered it. There was a big scuffle and eventually the ball bounced free and was gathered by the Khemri. I was up enough on numbers that it was easy to force a way through and score on turn 11.

In the second half the Chaos kicked off and I got to use Kick Off Return for the first time (I think). I managed to catch the ball which was a surprise. I ploughed down the left flank, screening off the 7 Chaos players except for the Minotaur who managed to frenzy himself onto my side of the line. He had to go and he ended up with a fractured leg. I scored in good time figuring that I had the numbers sorted and stood a good chance of TD 3 for the first time ever.

I kicked short and the Chaos caged up on my left. I smashed into the cage with a Tomb Guardian and secured the ball. It wasn't enough though and the final turn rolled round with a deficit of two squares to the endzone. So I decided pass the ball instead which bounced around 4 different players before dribbling onto the ground. Everyone looked suitable shame-faced as the final whistle blew.

It was a fun game and I had the edge on the dice. To be honest though, the Apocalypse were screwed once they started leaving the pitch in numbers, being numbers up is all good for the Khemri.

Disappointing but predicted 2-1 loss for the Vampire's first Pro match:

Image

The Cheeseknowers scored comfortably in 4 turns in the first half, whereas the lizards slightly messed up their return first half drive by getting too busy respecting some fallen opposition players, leaving the ballcarrier open to being POWed down and the chance being lost.

Second half the lizards didn't mess about and although the Vampires went quite heavy at the cage, a skink broke out and ran off to score.

Then I messed up / didn't have enough players to not take the chance - an AG5 Vampire failed a pick up, the ball went off the pitch right into the middle of my half, and then it was swarmed by lizards. I couldn't stop them, and NJ scored the winner in his turn 16.

Well played NJ!

An impromptu game against Percy's Persistant Plan occurred as the Brewers Brawlers got lost on the way to the stadium. With the Fables prepared for a game against the slow, hard Dwarves the Fables quaked in fear at the sight of a Fanatic and Chainsaw in the other half.

The Fables kicked off and won a blitz, in which Wilhem Grimm attempted to bash the Chainsaw but only succeeded in pushing him. Rather than risk Bigby's life by dashing into the middle of the Plan's half the Fables decided to end their advantage. It took the Plan a couple of turns to pick up the ball but they lost no time injuring Fables players. The Plan made a dash down their left flank as the Fables scrambled to defend without a Flesh Golem and a Wight. Turn six saw the Plan well into the Fables half, when their ball carrier attempted to dodge through the defense - only to trip and lose the ball. Bufkin dodged in, picked up the ball and fled to the opposite side of the pitch to score in the Fables last turn of the half.

The second half starts with 11 members of the Plan on the pitch, verses the Fables 9. The Fables receive and decided to try and make a quick dash with a screen down the left flank. The Plan's excellent kick meant that the Fables had to stall their plan slightly, which allowed the Chainsaw to get right in the middle of the route the ball carrier had planned to take. Rather than risk losing the ball, Bufkin and Bigby hung back out of reach whilst the rest of the team took a beating. In the end they decided to make a run up the right side of the pitch but ultimately lost the ball. The Plan gathered up the ball and started making their way down the pitch to score, harried constantly by the remaining Fables players. In the end though, there's not a lot you can do to defend when your only five players left on the pitch are lying on their backs and Percy's Persistent Plan scored in turn 16.

Well played Daigaro!
