Multiple Block

Postby Gandalf » Fri Feb 27, 2015 11:09 pm

I have been trying this skill out in single player, to see if it works OK, as Raveen said he heard something about it not being correct. Here, for the education of all, is what my testing has revealed.

- If you are next to two opposition players, it will automatically use the skill even if you only want to make one block (so, you get -2 strength). If your first block doesn't result in a turnover, then it then asks you if you want to use your second block or not.
- If you are next to one opposition player, it will not use the skill - which is correct as according to the rules you have to be next to two players.
- If you are next to two opposition players, but DON'T want the skill, then you must de-activate it by double-clicking the skill name and unticking it before you make your first block.

Now for two "gotchas"...

- I'm not 100% on this, but I don't think your choice from the last point is remembered from turn to turn.
- If you are using the skill, and you hover over an opponent, the number of block dice it says you will be rolling is based on NOT using the skill! So you have to calculate how many block dice you will need manually. From the one game I have tested it in, it always gave me the number of block dice I was expecting.

The logical thing would be for it to ask you if you wanted to use the skill before you make a block, but it does not.

Making the skill optional in the options menu appears to make little or no difference (all the above were with it switched to optional).

So... I think I will give it to my ogre who already has block, in the full knowledge that it means extra things to think about and that it isn't implemented properly and hence is another possible source for error.

I'll post anything else I discover here too. :)

Kudos for doing the research, and good luck!

Thought you might be interested in the research too, as multiple block is really only viable on players with strength 5+. Even better if the player has block (like mine does), then rolling 1 instead of 2 or 2 instead of 3 block dice is less likely to end your turn.

In my practice games I am forever forgetting to deactivate the skill, leading to brilliant results like turning 2 dice for blocks into 2 dice against ones. It's a recipe for disaster but hey, the Ogres aren't the most serious team in the world so let's give it a go. :)

The guardians have lots of things to get before I'd consider multiple block mighty blow and guard make them good and after that it's stand firm and break tackle. And with decay I don't see them getting more than 4 skills.

Fair enough. Ogres already have mighty blow, plus I think it's more fun to spread out the skills a bit more... make my players a bit more individual rather than having 6 identical players. Also I have 6 ogres rather than your 4 TG's. But also I think it goes well with block. Rolling a double or 10+ early on can lead to different skill choices down the road.
