Dawn Of War (Warhammer 40,000 RTS)

Postby Gandalf » Thu Apr 16, 2015 9:23 pm

Did anyone ever play this? It was a mighty fine game that perfectly captured the W4k universe. Great graphics for its day too. I have it and a couple of the expansions, if anyone else has it (or would be interested in getting it) I'd go through the trouble of getting it into Steam so that we could play.

Got Dawn of war 2 for Christmas last year I think

Only played it a few times. Kindof liked it, but I've got so many games I just have't played and so little time I never got back around to it....

I played the campaign, but MP RTS isn't really my bag. Abom was into DoW wasn't he? Try chasing him up via PM to spark some interest.

notj - I never got DoW 2, read the reviews & didn't like the sound of it really. It's a good game but the balance of reviews are slightly in favour of the old one.

The only multiplayer game vs humans I ever played was one with Abom and Terra. Good times. I'd be more in favour of teaming up against AI rather than playing directly against others, if that changes things for you Rav.

I think I played the first one SP - it was quite a while back! I'd consider getting it again if it was cheap, I remember it as being goood fun, but never tried MP.

The only Strategy game worth playing multiplayer is Sid Meiers Alpha Centuri, and that's turn based.

Gentlemen.... This doesn't exactly belong in the Blood Bowl section.

I have Dawn of War plus all the expansions. It's fun vs the AI for a bit, but it does get a little easy after a while.

Given this got 0 response in "other games" and several replies in Blood Bowl, I'm moving it back.

For the next 19 hours this is £5 / £7.50 on Steam (depending on what version you want to get). So those who were considering it, maybe you should get it?

Hmm, £7.50 for the completest version. Tempted, but I think I have too many games I barely play and should control myself.

I will look again in the morning though.

Ha, I tried playing this yesterday.

The 2nd one though, I liked the idea of not having to play boring boring space marines. Really like the graphics and story, but I cannot for the life of me keep track of more than one squad in an RTS. Far too much going on at once for my brain the comprehend.

I got all the games and band of brothers (is that the right name?) In a humble bundle for a fiver a few weeks ago.

The only way I'd be of any use in multiplayer is if you gave me one really big tank with a really big gun that I'd use to distract the enemy while everyone else played the game properly.

The fourth expansion is by far the best as you can choose your race

4th expansion was soulstorm, I don't have that, reviews wern't fantastic. You can play any race in the single player for the 2nd or 3rd expansion (Dark Crusade?) I think.

I'd recommend a zoom mod, I'll find a link... the game was made in an era where screens were smaller and graphics card no as good, I found it helps an awful lot as you can see more of what is going on.

Daigaro, I'm not great at micro-management, but you can group a few squads together and just pretend they are one, that's what I do, not the most efficient but it's OK :)

Since it seems some people have it I will try & get it on steam too, I think I have to contact the publishers to convert my CD/DVD copy into a steam copy.
