The Virgin engineer came and told me everything was fine.

Apparently there has been a problem in the local area, but they fixed it yesterday. This could possibly be true, there have been a lot of Virgin vans about, and I haven't been in long enough the last couple of days for the internet to fail on me. We'll see what happens. Worst case he gave me his work mobile, so we can try and ring him on Sunday if my internet fails and explain to him how frustrating it is to have a game ruined by their network issues. Or if it disconnects whilst I'm watching Game of Thrones my wife can yell at him about that.

A good game versus Identity led to another victory for the Lizards.

I really thought it was going to be very bad when On the very first turn Ident injured two Saurii and pushed a 3rd off the field.

But some good later luck with the dice and a critical failed pick-up or two from the non-living ones gave the Lizards a 2-0 lead at half time.

Then, when defending the Lizards managed to delay the return touchdown enough that the game was theirs

GG and fun all around.

P.S.
After 3 injuries in the very first turn no-one else was injured or Kod until the last couple of turns. odd that.

P.P.S
Who would have thought the Ogres would be second! GJ Gandalf!

P.P.P.S
I'm not sure if the Lizards have won the league or not, I suspect we have. Unless I missed anything - I have 18 points, and I think the highest available to anyone else is to the Fables! and The Carrions, both of whom can only muster 17 if they win their remaining 3 games.

Nice mathsing NJ, and Congratulations on your victory.

You playing Halflings next season yeah?

Also fair play G-man, was shocked to see you 2nd, excellent work.

It looks like there may be a coup on in the Plan camp... Percy is an almighty level 3 but hasn't actually bothered to learn anything useful... the 'shrooms are calling for a better leader...

Soo...

Image

First half started with the vampires receiving and trying to score as quick as possible to get rid of some of the goblins' secret weapons. We broke quick down the left (well, quick for vampires), and scored in turn 3. When the goblins received, something went a bit wrong, and the vampires ended up with the ball and scoring in turn... 7?

All three throw team mate attempts for the gobbos failed, and they set up at the start of the second half and failed one, which ended up with the ball in vampire Albert Camusbert's cheesy hands, but he promptly fell over, dropping the ball. A goblin picked it up, ran the length of the pitch (or 8 squares) only to get flattened into the endzone by a thrall who had no movement left to pick the ball up. The goblin got up and picked it up in a tacklezone and the endzone to make it 2-1.

By this time we were both quite down players, and when the vampires received I had a funny turn and accidentally picked the ball up before doing anything except covering it, except I didn't pick it up - I needed 2+ with a reroll and failed. But a troll pushed a vampire into the ball which pushed the ball into a thrall's hands, and 2 or 3 turns later it was 3-1.

I think there was a slight lack of offensive tactical focus from the gobbos, and the vampires didn't do much wrong apart from dice-related stuff. The goblins were massively well beaten in the casualty side-competition with the vampires I think Badly Hurting off 3 and getting 2 KOs... of their own thralls (I have no idea how the above screenshot works out the casualties though, maybe I am not remembering right). But the trolls did get a-AV and a Niggling Injury on two thralls who are as we speak being made into halftime smoothies.

Overall, luck for all 3 dice sets were in the goblins' favour, but there were for example a 1-2-1-2-1-2 series for the gobbos, and the time a bomb landed next to 4 of my players and did nothing. I could only not clear up my luck-mess once, which is when the goblins scored.

Ogres in "scoring twice" shocker!

Image

Pre-game - similar team values mean the only inducement is a bribe for the Khemri.

First half - Ogres receive and hit some people. With a touchback, the ball is given to the agili-ogre who runs up the sideline. Before long things look pretty bad for him and his team-mates, without any bashy way out obviously open to them, he throws it cross-field to a snotling. Thankfully his skills were good enough to not fumble it, no matter that it wasn't caught. Two Khmeri make it over to the ball, pick it up and hit the snotling. With a smattering of fortunate rolls the Ogre team get some players in the right corner of the pitch (I had 4 of my 7-ish players who were still on the pitch), knock over the Tomb Guardian in the area and mark the ball carrier. A few turns later the Khemri had managed to get a few more players in the area - and the ball - but a blitzing Ogre knocked the ball loose which fell into the "hands" of a snotling who walked over the line. 1-0 to the Ogres with the half nearly up. Some hitting happened to pass the time and the Khmeri managed to get Donkey off the pitch (the only injury an Ogre got all game) - but the apothecary brought him back.

Second half - Khemri receive, look to cage up but then try a pass that failed. The ball fell into no-man's land between the Ogres and Tomb Guardians (a strange term to have in a match that had no players resembling a "man" but there we go). Some blocking happened and then a snotling went in, picked up the ball and dodged out. Next turn he tried to hand it off to the agili-ogre, but the ball went loose instead. This is where the game entered the twilight zone for a bit.... first one of his ball handlers tried to pick the ball up, failed, but it landed in the arms of the tomb guardian, then I hit that tomb guardian, tried to pick it up with a snotling who failed but the ball landed in the arms of an AG2 ogre. Fortunately for me it was my best ogre for running the length of the pitch MV6 and break tackle. So, he ran for a turn, then Rav was unlucky in not knocking him over the next turn, so he ran some more, by which time he couldn't be caught, so he ran some more and scored.

In the closing turns, I rolled a blitz so injured a skeleton, Rav hit some ogres but didn't injure any, then in what was a surprise to both of us, I had one more turn, so I killed a tomb guardian (!!).

Summary - We both made some silly moves, and were both really guilty of not noticing the skills on the other players until it was too late - Stand Firm, Tackle and Break Tackle in particular. I ran out of time a couple of times. I think we both thought it was an entertaining game. I was quite pleased at getting some mileage out of my specialist skills - Multiple Block, Break Tackle, Piling On and Strong Arm all saw some useful action.

Dice - My D6 chance was about 6 better than his - and also failures didn't affect me much - I don't think I re-rolled a bonehead all game. 2D6 was a landside victory for me - 5 injuries and a death - while he only managed 3 injuries - the snotlings passed a remarkable number of their armour rolls and the ogres were only injured once. Looking at the block dice it again seemed like I had the better of it. It was nice to get back into committing injuries after a couple of poor games on that front (but I did win them so I shouldn't complain :p).

So, the ogres have 3 victories in a season (with 2 games left!), scored twice in one match and sit second in their league. Way beyond their wildest hopes. I'm not sure how much I can take credit for it as the dice have definitely been kinder to the Ogres this season than last time they played. Who knows how much longer it will last?

Redlion - do you want to try to fit another attempt at our game in at some point? I might be able to do this week - tonight might be okay, not sure about thurs-fri-sat but could be possible.

Have spoken to him recently - what with his internet issues & RL busyness I don't think he'll be available this week. He's welcome to contradict me, though :)

Okay - thanks for letting me know. Hopefully me and RL can get it played before I face you on the last weekend for a somewhat unlikely champions league places decider ;)

Apparently this Sunday is the "Catch-up week" if we are on the original Schedule, and in 9 days is the final day.

The scheduled matches for this week according to the spreadsheet are

Brewers Brawlers vs Saur'd of Justice

The Champions elect free scoring, hard hitting Lizards face the Dwarves this week and are looking to extend their run, the momentum and luck seems to be with them, but perhaps it's time for them to be taken down a peg or two.
looking to do that are the Brewers Brawlers, who are looking to turn their fortunes around, and are looking forward to a bit of Skink hunting.

Team Shrek vs Fables!
The Fables were unlucky last week, and outfought the previously hard hitting Lizards, but were unable to capitalise as the lizards got away with some lucky scores to seal the title.
Next up for them though is the surprise package of the Tournament, the high flying Ogres, who last week convincingly defeated the pre-tournament favourites the Pinewood Carrions!

The Sons of the Silver Sword vs Pinewood Carrions
The Carrions suffered a huge setback last week too, and likewise saw the evaporation of their title hopes as they came up against the only team in the tournament who could out-stregth them, a complete change of pace this week as they face the High Elf The Sons of the Silver Sword, who haven't played for a few weeks, but are having a decent season in mid-table. The carrions have struggled with Elf teams in previous seasons, so this could be interesting...

P.S. The other game listed is Brewers Brawlers vs Fables! (Both these teams are down as in other games though so is this played at another time?).

P.P.S
There's 3 teams on 5 games. 5 on 6 games, and the Chaos team have played 7. I think that means there are 10 games left to the season, 3 this week, and 4 next week leaves 3 other games to squeeze in somewhere, Do we need another week for these? Can we finish on time? Lets sort it honestly.

Thanks nj, and yes, these are the games for this week.

I'm happy to run over into another week if we need to, so long as we don't have one team needing to catch up 3 matches it'll be fine.

I've updated the spreadsheet with a final week which I think gets everything back in order. I don't know why nj's in such a hurry given that he's already won :)
