We're with the in laws in the Isle of Wight. Day 2 has been negotiated without fisticuffs... So far :)

I did my geology thesis mapping in Cliffden which is south of Sligo, right on the furthest western point. Lovely place and worth a visit but possibly not much fun for kids unless they like hill walking.

Sounds great Abom (except perhaps the inlaws). I've never been to Ireland, but I'd like to go.

Another great game of Blood Bowl was played, with emphasis on the Blood! Right from the start Abom's armour rolls let him down and by turn three I think he was down four players.

I won the toss and chose to receive, planning to take my time and whittle down the Skaven numbers. After a couple of turns of being bashed, Abom managed to get a blitz on my ball carrier and stole the ball to score in turn four. I received with 10 players to Abom's 9 and proceed to make a slow steady push up the left flank. Twice Abom tried to get at the ball carrier and twice a rat was surfed. The rest of the Skaven were busy being outnumbered by daemons, and whilst there was almost a shock attack on my ball carrier, The Club scored the equalizer in their turn 8.

The second half was quite a different game. With the Skaven still outnumbered (but only by one) I was keen not to let the ball slip past me and played pretty conservatively. Abom did a great job of moving his players around to get the assists where he needed them and managed to get a couple of runners through as a result. One was killed by Shiney Demon, and the other marked up and then pushed slowly back up the field. More rats were injured and I felt much more confident in sending Amy Whinehouse forward to try and sack the ball carrier. This triggered a move forward by Abom, because he though Shiney Demon was stunned, but it turned out it was a player a couple of squares behind him. The ball carrier ran away, but couldn't get the distance it needed to escape. Shiney Demon blitzed, but out of nine dice he only managed to get a pushes, attacker downs (push for juggernaught players) and four attacker downs. Abom's ball carrier succeeded in dodging away and got it's self in to a safe position in his back field. Amy Whinehouse continued to charge forward up the field, only for Abom to dodge his gutter runner away from it's marker and wait in the end zone to receive. The ball carrier ran to the the line of scrimmage and attempted to pass the ball the entire length of my half but the pass was inaccurate, landing at the receivers feet. Cecilia promptly pushed the player off the pitch, but failed to pick up the ball. With only one turn remaining each, Abom did his best to take out my chances of scoring. Amy Whinehouse was withing GFI distance of his end zone, with enough Pitfighters strung along the way to attempt a pass, run hand-off maneuver. Cecilia picked up the ball and managed the short pass to a pit fighter. The pit fighter ran forward, but failed his first GFI and that was that.

Overall it was a great game. Everybody had positive luck, but I got significantly more of it on the 2D6 resulting in 5 or six injuries and two dead rats. Well played Abom!

The Nurgle's slow pestilent march towards the top of the table is complete.... but will they stay there?

Image

First half

With near-equal values there were no inducements. The Nurgle kicked off in the rain and got a blitz - and perhaps more damagingly for the humans, the ball landed only just over the LoS. The blitz consisted of a Really Stupid beat, followed by a Nurgle Warrior pushing the human out from under the ball. Unsuprisingly it wasn't caught and bounced loose. Over the next few turns a scrum emerged around the ball. The humans picked it up and tried a hand-off but forgot about Disturbing Presence so it went loose on the touchline. The Nurgle Warriors stood and stared at it for a bit while Trudy Lies lumbered across from the other batch. The Beast tried to hold many players at bay but was knocked over and then fouled off the pitch. Eventually Trudy Lies (the AG4 rotter) picked it up after a re-roll but was knocked over soon after. The humans sneaked in, picked it up but got knocked over again, and the ball scattered to.... next to the sideline, again....

After a failed foul, the humans dodged in, picked it up and passed it to a guy in space, who failed the catch. I tried to knock him over but failed, instead sending a few players around him. Nonetheless the humans pushed my players away again, and one of them made two dodges and two gfi's and picked it up. I tried to knock him over but failed, so again sought to surround him. Then the Ogre came in but made a slight error of judgement when he didn't realise my pestigor had block also, followed by a failed 1D block which ended the turn in short order. This gave me a chance to get the ball loose on T7. After knocking the requisite players over, Trudy picked it up, ran a bit, made a 3+ pass to a marked pestigor, who dodged clear down towards the touchdown zone. Isa Black Stars could only get to him with some lucky rolls, which didn't materialise, so I walked it in on T8, and it was half time, 1-0 to the Nurgles.

Second half

We kicked off 11 Nurgley things versus 9 humans and an ogre, and a bribe each. A miscalculation by the human kicker led to a touchback. The Nurgle deliberated too long about who to give it to so it ended up with a Give Way, Nurgle Warrior. With a 1-0 lead and the ball in a slow lumbering player's hands, It's A Sign decided to just hang around with the ball in the middle of the pitch. The humans had to force proceedings as they were behind and so closed around the smelly mob. However the humans basically all got knocked over. Not even the blitzing ogre could slow proceedings. So Give Way ambled towards the touchdown zone whilst the humans by-and-large decided to stay lying down, presumably scarred by the beating they took last game and not wanting any more players hurt. I scored in T16. Nothing interesting happened in the last turn.

Dice
I've never seen such equal D6 (-6.23 vs -6.32) and 2D6 (3.65 vs 3.76) rolls. Armour was broken 17 times which would normally yield 3 injuries, but we had only 1. The block dice are.... open to interpretation. Dai impressively managed to roll 9 of 5 of the 6 sides of the block dice, and 4 red skulls. Mine were fairly even but the top 3 were defender down followed by jointly red skulls and defender stumbles. Our percentage of block success was 57% humans 54% Nurgle. Not shown in the stats was that I committed 3 fouls and got sent off with all 3 of them (though one was ignored thanks to the bribe we both got at the start of the 2nd half).

Post game, we both got a fair bit of money. I had 2 players level up - my second pestigor (+MV!) and a nurgle warrior who rolled 6+4 as well. Am tempted by +AV (probably not the optimum play) which will drop the chance of armour breaks from 1/6 to 1/12. Would've been more tempted by +MV if I hadn't just rolled it on the Pestigor.

Hello BloodBowl Fans!

Good evening to all you sports enthusiasts out there! This is Jim & Bob, coming live to you on Cabalvision from the steamy heart of the jungle for today's local derby. Facing off tonight we have, in the green corner, the Brave-Hearted Amazons!! And in the red armour, scaly and mean, the lizards of Gojira's Army! The weather is set fair and

[door sounds]

... who are you? ... Stop that ... duck tape? .. What the ... mmmph ... mmph ... klunk. ... ... ... mmppph ? ... klunk ... mm ? .. klunk .. klunk ... mmp? ... KLUNK!!

[sounds of dragging]

Good evening sports fans! This is Jemima and Robina, the Amazon Ladies of Loquaciousness, bringing you the big game live from the heart of the steamy jungle. Jim & Bob have kindly stood aside for tonight's match [muffled chuckling]. The brave and noble Zons, capably lead by CoachKittens, start with no subs due to injuries heroically sustained battling the forces of chaos. The Lizards [boo, hiss] also start with three players "injured". The Kroxigor et al are too scared to stand up on the front lines against the gals and have opted to stay sunning themselves in the team terrarium. Cowering onto the field come their replacements, a mob of scaly skinks. Not much bash to them, eh, Jemima?

That's right Robina. But they're a slippery bunch and could give the ladies the run around. Speaking of slippery... what's that their coach is putting back into the kit bag? "Country luvver: there's nowt more liker to butter in the whole of the West of the Old World" - looks like there'll be plenty of dodging tonight! And with the ladies' best tackler watching from the stands too.

The toss is up! And the Lizards choose to receive. Looks like they're looking to get one over the line early on.

Wait a minute Robina - they only have ten on the field! Looks like one of them missed the bus!

The ball goes high into the air, and there is a skink under it ... but that's a slippery butter-fingered moment and the ball is on the deck! The Saurus front line has started well... and oh dear, one of our super sisters is being stretchered off all ready. Ouch! The skinks have the ball and...

Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge.

Crikey, these Skinks are really hard to pin down tonight. The ladies are fighting back now... a few lizards hit the floor, but that's all. Now the lizards. Varan attacks, and re-rolls, and ... he's knocked himself out! And the ladies have ko'd another! But the Lizards still have the ball.

Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge.

The Lizards are a long way down field with the ball! Pesky stunty dodging! But the Zons close in and down the ball carrier goes. The ball bounces and lands, in Zon hands! That's what we like to see!

Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge.

The Zons have moved the ball to the left and up the wing. Despite the dodgy skink pursuit [more suppressed chuckling] they fly over in the corner to score.

Both teams restart with 10. ... is this the other Saurus finally turning up for the game? The ball goes up, and a Lizard picks up. But now Orga has knocked himself out! And Lisa L Weapon has lived up to her name and smashed Biollante's collar bone! So much for the extra dino.

Quite right Jemima, that is most definitely what we do like to see.

Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Dodge. Slip, trip BANG!

The Zons get a blitz on the ball carrier now - and again he's down! They pick up and move the ball left, but half time has sadly defeated them once again.

...
...

And that's the final move of the game folks! The ladies got their second towards the end of the second half, after stalling in the corner for several turns. The Skinks did well to get a blitz on the ball carrier through that maze of defenders, but just couldn't knock her over. But they did get a score in reply, all that butter finally coming good with the last play of the game. So we leave you with the score 2-1 to the ladies. Goodnight sports fans!

---------------------------------------

It was a good game, but things were against the Lizards from the start. They had lots of players out injured, and suffered a no-saurus-start-with-10 glitch in the first half. Digging into the stats - they were apparently the luckier team!

D6 Zons +8, Lizards +19
2D6 Zons +0, Lizards +26

However, all their luck was basically on successful dodging and catching. (They made a whopping 85 dodge rolls, of which 62 were successful. Wow.) They only rolled 2D6 5 times in the game. On the other side, the Zons had super fortune on the block dice, getting far fewer both downs and attacker downs than average, and getting more defender downs. The Lizards were unlucky that another Saurus has sustained a bad long term injury.

Good game though Moose! The skinks were really hard to stop - if you had actually had a working Saurus front line it could have been a different story.

Excellent write up there Red Lion. Percy is impressed.

Nurgle - Humans match was a predictable mess - it was all uphill for the Humans after the kickoff scattering so close to the LoS and Nurgle getting a blitz. Didn't help that I made far too many silly mistakes either.

Humans out of the title race, but after being kicked about so much recently Cup qualification shouldn't be an issue.

I am not expecting to play - I hope that is right and you are not expecting me Gandalf? I probably could if you wanted though, as long as I don't fall asleep on the train home and end up somewhere wrong.

1 - 1 draw at half time, then the Chief Dice Roller decided he couldn't take any more abuse and ordered us to postpone the second half until we'd calmed down (we lost connection).

I think I'm about 4 games behind on my match reports now so I'll post a recap from my perspective.

Image
"Holy 13 *gotta* win. Gotta win sometime..." Starscream the II, after telling his team to swallow knives in order to sneak some weapons onto the pitch

Lizards win the toss, choose to receive. I keep forgetting I have Kick so they get the ball handily and form a cage by the middle. I elect to play the whole shepard type of game (i.e. get my players the heck out of dodge rather than bash-game). The first few turns there's not a lot of bashing going on and I think Moose is just looking for an opening with his skinks.

Some turns in, I think halfway through the first half, some gutter runners beat up one of said skinks, Gorosaurus. A Dead result is rolled, ouch! Moose's apothecary then rolls badly hurt, but Moose pays the apothecary to give him the good stuff and make sure that he remains dead, because, as one reporter quotes, "he insulted the coach's mum."

Moose then decides to make his move, moving his ball-carrier up, forming a loose cage by the left side. I think he overestimated the saurus movement, underestimated the skink movement, forgot that Gorosaurus was dead, or felt the pressure of the clock, resulting in a very loose forward cage. If poor old Gorosaurus wasn't dead, he could have halfway secured that cage. I rush the ball, it drops. Some gutter runner picks it up. Then I believe I toss or run it to the middle of the pitch again and 1-2 turns later it results in a 1-0 for skaven.

I forget if it was 2-0 by halftime, I don't think it was so I'll describe how I think the game went.
----------------------------------------
2nd half, Nuffle curses Moose for going all Godfather on the poor innocent Gorosaurus.

Skaven receive. Thrower gets ball, I put him in the back out of range of anyone. An opening on the right side emerges and a good old run-pass, run-handoff results in a quick 2-0.

The bad luck I mentioned earlier is out on a tour de force for moose. Lots of badly hurts, failed dodges. One or two of moose's turns were straight up double 1s on 2+ or 3+ dodge rolls. The skaven aren't the punching bags for once and switch to a bashier game. They steal the ball and it ends as a 3-0 and the first win for the rats.

Image

=============

Good game, Moose!

I think that loose cage I mentioned was the defining moment of the game, but it didn't help that Nuffle denied you any other opportunities to get back in it. I also think that since I finally had some block and such on my team and the skinks don't have any, that helped my block dice out a lot.

Skaven got 5 level-ups out of that match, intense. I predict all those rats will be dead soon.
