Just arrange to meet at the Coriolis station on Lave surely ;)

There's a thought, certainly  8)

I fear the Federal start may be quite a way off, but if it isn't that would be perfect. (For those who don't know, that is where the original 1984 version of the game begins).

Of course there will be thousands thinking the same, so Love may be busy and very dangerous.

Myself and Myotis have the kickstarter backer "Federal Trader" start option. That means getting a Cobra mk 3 with basic equipment, 1000 cr in cash, and another 1000 cr worth of trade goods in the hold. In the current Alpha the cost of a Cobra mk 3 is over 40k, and most people assume the actual price in game will be higher. The standard start in the game is a Sidewinder and 100 cr.

Sounds like some serious advantages from backing the kickstarter! Do ships purchased in the alpha carry over into release?

No. There will be a wipe after Beta, and many along the way.

Advantage is a bit misleading as Elite isn't a competetive PvP game. It's a sandbox PvE game if anything. The kickstarter rewards give options for an accelerated start, but an underequipped Cobra is only "better" in being able to carry a fair bit of cargo.

I see. Well, you've successfully piqued my interest in Elite: Dangerous. I'll most likely get involved in the Beta, if only to get a chance to learn to fly. (I'd sign-up for the Premium Beta now, but I want to buy some hobby stuff and I don't think I'd get both past my wife). I'll have to get my joystick back from my brother...

Neat. Tell me what your username is on the Frontier forums id3nt1ty, and I'll send you a friend invite (I'm Adept obviously. You can also send it to me). Friend lists are linked to the game, and will mean that the instancing will have ua meet up if we are at a crowded location at the same time.

Excellent. Tell me when you decide to get into the premium beta. I'll personally try to hold on for a month now, as I'm still saving up to complete my new controller setup.

I'm not sure if I'm going with premium beta. I guess it depends how long I can hold out.

Oooh, what setup are you going for?

CH Fighterstick, Pro Throttle and Pro Rudder Pedals

Managed to score the first two relatively cheaply from ebay.co.uk. Lost the bidding on ebay.de for pedals and will probably buy a new set. I can utterly recommend the CH stuff.

If on a more sane budget, then the Thrustmaster T.16000M or Hotas-X

You are not going to believe it but I actually picked up a CH Flight Sim Yoke and Rudder peddles for free from work yesterday. Brand new, in cellophane still. A colleague left last year and we found them under his desk. He never came back to get them and we're moving offices, so I was told I could have them on the proviso that if I sell them, I bring the money in to pay for beer.

I didn't think either were going to be useful for Elite, so I was considering cannibalising them into a HOTAS to go with my joystick. I can send the peddles over to you for the cost of shipping if you want.

You are serious??!?

I would absolutely love to have those rudder pedals. I've been sadly looking at the 150 euro prise tag over here.

My father in law shipped the ebay bought atick & throttle combo here with UPS for 20£ from near Cambridge.

Here is my address. Be sure to give me yours so I can send you something cool to say thanks besides paying for the shipping. <3

Do I ever <3

How people have relationships and marry people who don't share their interests I'll never understand.

It's not a case of not sharing interests, just not sharing all interests ;) In some ways that's healthy too because you can do stuff together and different stuff apart.

Or you can have kids and do what they want all the time instead ;)
